This role is focused on modernizing the Orders domain , one of the most critical areas of the EHR, supporting clinician workflows surrounding medication ordering, medication management, and acute patient care. This is a highly visible engineering leadership role where you'll influence architecture, lead complex feature development, improve application performance at scale, and help shape the future of AI-assisted software engineering across the organization. Why This Role Matters This position is critical to Oracle Health's EHR Modernization initiative. You will serve as the technical leader for the MedList application, a core Orders workflow component used by clinicians every day. You'll drive modernization efforts, architect new capabilities supporting Acute Care workflows, and improve the scalability and performance of services supporting millions of clinical interactions. In parallel, you'll lead performance engineering initiatives across the Orders Profile plugin and associated backend services while helping establish engineering best practices adopted across the broader organization. Without this role, delivery of key Acute Care enhancements, MedList modernization, and performance optimization initiatives will be significantly delayed, increasing technical debt and reducing the team's ability to deliver against strategic roadmap commitments. What You'll Do Lead Modernization of Critical Clinical Workflows * Architect, design, and deliver full-stack capabilities supporting Oracle Health's Orders and Medication Management platform. * Serve as Technical Lead for the MedList application, guiding both feature development and long-term architectural direction. * Design scalable, cloud-native services supporting clinician workflows across Acute Care environments. * Build highly performant backend services while contributing across the entire application stack. Drive Platform Performance * Lead performance optimization initiatives for the Orders Profile plugin and supporting services. * Identify bottlenecks through profiling, monitoring, and production telemetry. * Improve application responsiveness, scalability, resiliency, and operational efficiency. * Champion observability and performance engineering best practices across the team. Technical Leadership * Serve as the senior technical leader for the MedList engineering team. * Lead architecture discussions and technical design reviews. * Mentor engineers through design guidance, code reviews, and engineering best practices. * Establish standards for maintainability, performance, scalability, testing, and operational excellence. * Drive engineering consistency across multiple applications and services. End-to-End Ownership * Own solutions from requirements through production deployment and ongoing support. * Partner closely with Product Management, UX, Architects, TPMs, and fellow engineering teams. * Lead root cause investigations for production issues and implement long-term improvements. * Balance feature delivery with technical debt reduction and platform modernization. AI-First Engineering Oracle Health is an AI-first engineering organization. We're looking for engineers who thoughtfully leverage AI throughout the software development lifecycle while maintaining exceptional engineering judgment. You'll help define how AI accelerates software development by: * Using AI-assisted development tools to improve coding productivity. * Leveraging AI for design exploration, documentation, testing, debugging, and code reviews. * Building reusable prompt libraries and engineering workflows that improve team efficiency. * Establishing best practices for responsible AI-assisted software development. * Ensuring AI-generated solutions meet Oracle's security, privacy, compliance, and quality standards. ## Related Videos - [The Software Engineer 2030: From Coder To AI Orchestrator? - Patrick Schnell](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1825-the-software-engineer-2030-from-coder-to-ai-orchestrator-patrick-schnell) - [Docker Compose: Rediscovered](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1978-docker-compose-rediscovered) - [ Evaluating AI models for code comprehension](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1462-evaluating-ai-models-for-code-comprehension) - [Navigating the Future of Junior Developers in Tech](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1280-navigating-the-future-of-junior-developers-in-tech) - [Docker build without Docker](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100114-docker-build-without-docker) - [Speak, Code, Deploy: Transforming Developer Experience with Voice Commands](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1159-speak-code-deploy-transforming-developer-experience-with-voice-commands) ## Related Articles - [What’s the Difference between a Junior, Mid, and Senior Developer?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/238-what-s-the-difference-between-a-junior-mid-and-senior-developer) - [Highest Paying Tech Companies for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/220-highest-paying-tech-companies-for-developers) - [What is Software Engineering in the Age of AI?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/640-what-is-software-engineering-in-the-age-of-ai) - [What Are The Top Skills Required For Azure Developers?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/77-what-are-the-top-skills-required-for-azure-developers) - [How to Answer the Interview Question: “Why Do You Want to Be a Software Engineer?”](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/392-how-to-answer-the-interview-question-why-do-you-want-to-be-a-software-engineer) - [Is Software Engineering Over-Saturated?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/418-is-software-engineering-over-saturated)
