In this role, you will architect and evolve foundational systems - spanning operating system interfaces, runtime environments, distributed infrastructure, and low-level platform services - that underpin Meta's family of products at global scale. You will solve the most complex systems-level challenges across the organization, define multi-year technical strategy for platform reliability and performance, and serve as a force multiplier for engineering teams through deep systems expertise, AI-native workflows, and cross-functional technical leadership., 1. Define and drive the long-term technical vision and architecture for large-scale systems software, including platform services, runtime environments, and low-level infrastructure components 2. Architect systems-level solutions that address performance, reliability, and scalability requirements across distributed infrastructure serving billions of users 3. Identify and resolve the most complex systems-level challenges spanning kernel interfaces, memory management, concurrency, inter-process communication, and distributed coordination 4. Lead the design and implementation of critical platform components, establishing extensible technical foundations and coding standards that improve consistency and velocity across systems engineering teams 5. Develop and operationalize testing frameworks, fault injection strategies, and verification methodologies that prevent systems regressions and improve production reliability at scale 6. Define and track systems-level metrics, service level objectives, and performance guardrails that connect engineering outcomes to organization-wide priorities 7. Leverage AI tooling and automation to accelerate systems development workflows, identify performance bottlenecks, and improve observability and debugging capabilities 8. Partner with infrastructure, product, and platform engineering teams to translate complex systems requirements into durable technical designs, influencing roadmaps across organizational boundaries 9. Drive safe and automated rollout strategies for major systems changes, including phased migrations and dependency coordination across teams 10. Mentor engineers across the organization on systems design principles, performance profiling, debugging methodologies, and low-level platform internals ## Related Videos - [Profiling Symfony & PHP apps with Blackfire](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/265-profiling-symfony-php-apps-with-blackfire) - [Kubernetes and Microservices with Multi-Model Databases](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/382-kubernetes-and-microservices-with-multi-model-databases) - [Concurrency with Go](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/191-concurrency-with-go) - [The Software Engineer 2030: From Coder To AI Orchestrator? - Patrick Schnell](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1825-the-software-engineer-2030-from-coder-to-ai-orchestrator-patrick-schnell) - [Enhancing Workload Security in Kubernetes](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/356-enhancing-workload-security-in-kubernetes) - [How building an industry DBMS differs from building a research one](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/768-how-building-an-industry-dbms-differs-from-building-a-research-one) ## Related Articles - [How to Become an AI Engineer](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/331-how-to-become-an-ai-engineer) - [Navigating the AI Shift](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/629-navigating-the-ai-shift) - [Highest Paying Tech Companies for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/220-highest-paying-tech-companies-for-developers) - [Graph and AI Trends 2026: Why Is AI Running but Not Yet Delivering?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/680-graph-and-ai-trends-2026-why-is-ai-running-but-not-yet-delivering) - [What Jobs Can You Get with a Software Engineering Degree?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/398-what-jobs-can-you-get-with-a-software-engineering-degree) - [The 12 Best Jobs for Software Engineers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/401-the-12-best-jobs-for-software-engineers)
