This person will own the technical strategy, architecture, and operational excellence of the services that serve these models, while building and growing the team of engineers who deliver them. This is a hands-on leadership role: the SDM will be deep enough in the system to make architectural calls and unblock engineers, while also owning hiring, mentorship, and delivery commitments across the team. The SDM will work side-by-side with the applied scientists, economists, and data scientists who develop these models, translating research-grade prototypes into production-grade systems that are scalable, efficient, secure, and fault-tolerant. This role partners closely with TPMs, Data Engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders across PXT to ensure the systems built meet real operational needs, and represents the engineering roadmap and technical tradeoffs to senior leadership., Own the technical strategy, architecture, and end-to-end delivery of production services that host and serve PXTCS's ML/AI models, ensuring they are scalable, highly available, secure, and fault-tolerant. - Hire, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of software engineers. - Partner directly with applied scientists, economists, data engineers and data scientists to take models from research and experimentation through to productionization, establishing repeatable paths from science to production (MLOps, CI/CD, model monitoring, and retraining pipelines). - Set and maintain engineering standards through design reviews, code reviews, and operational readiness reviews; provide hands-on technical guidance when the team hits hard problems. - Drive operational excellence for live production systems, including monitoring, alerting, on-call practices, incident response, and root-cause analysis. - Communicate technical strategy, tradeoffs, risks, and status clearly to both technical teams and senior leadership. - Collaborate with TPMs, product managers, and business stakeholders across PXT to prioritize roadmap investments against business impact. ## Related Videos - [Empowering Democratic Processes: Building a Hybrid Voting Platform](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1163-empowering-democratic-processes-building-a-hybrid-voting-platform) - [Are Code Reviews Worth It?
