You model your data at every boundary - Pydantic, attrs or similar - and you're comfortable working within an established framework. * A production mindset: you think about maintainability, testing, telemetry, and debugging, and you're comfortable handling production issues and contributing to root cause analysis (RCA). * Strong skills in Python development, including building micro-services and working with event-driven architectures. Deep, practical async Python: you have built services on asyncio and you know what it buys you and what it doesn't - async generators, cancellation, and why a single blocking call inside a coroutine stalls everything around it. Micro-services and event-driven architectures on top of that. * A feel for what goes wrong across a network boundary: timeouts, bounded retries with backoff, idempotency. You read an outbound call with no deadline on it as a defect rather than a detail. * Proficiency in designing and consuming RESTful APIs. * An affinity for AI/ML: curiosity about or hands-on experience with LLMs and agentic systems is a strong plus - most developers today have at least tried an AI coding assistant or built a quick agentic proof of concept. Familiarity with cloud AI services (e.g., SageMaker, Bedrock, Azure ML) is a bonus, though deep ML specialism is not required. * Experience with CI/CD (GitHub Enterprise) and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Pulumi). An affinity for AI/ML: curiosity about or hands-on experience with LLMs and agentic systems is a strong plus, though neither is required - we care more that you engineer well than that you already know this stack. Deep ML specialism is not needed. * Strong communication skills in English. Nice to have: * Supply chain or logistics domain knowledge - the cherry on top, not a requirement. * Willingness to dig into the Java codebase of our core product to understand what functionality is already available, even before it's exposed via an API. * Experience with CI/CD (GitHub Enterprise) and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Pulumi). * Familiarity with cloud AI services (e.g., SageMaker, Bedrock, Azure ML). ## Description We launched Pathfinder, which brings AI into the world of EDI and Data Integration - it's already live in production and proven stable. What we need now is a skilled software engineer to expand its scope with clean, production-grade code. In this role, you'll build additional AI agents within this established framework, taking them from blueprint to production. These agents leverage both LLMs and hybrid AI/ML systems. Our mission is to connect people, data and intelligence (human & artificial) to optimise processes across the supply chain, always choosing the right tool for the right challenge. Ready to make an impact? You'll get to take ownership of: * Developing Pathfinder, a multi-agent AI system built on protocol-driven, microservice-oriented architecture - where specialised agents are dynamically orchestrated to assist users in navigating the complexities of data integration, automating routine tasks and proactively solving problems to make them significantly more productive. * Defining and implementing scalable microservices that drive data mapping, transformation, and intelligent integration. * Developing and maintaining RESTful APIs to ensure seamless communication between services and systems. * Creating and optimising event-driven data pipelines to enable real-time processing, automation, and decision-making across our products. * Evaluating, selecting, and implementing the best-fit tools and technologies to solve complex engineering and data challenges effectively. * Collaborating directly with key customers and internal stakeholders to validate solution performance and ensure product impact and usability. ## Related Videos - [Why segmenting your infrastructure into tiers makes your infrastructure design better](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1960-why-segmenting-your-infrastructure-into-tiers-makes-your-infrastructure-design-better) - [Enterprise Python: Software That Lives Long And Prosper](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/946-enterprise-python-software-that-lives-long-and-prosper) - [The Developer Handbook: How to Build on the Blockchain](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/223-the-developer-handbook-how-to-build-on-the-blockchain) - [Infrastructure as Code: The Developer's Secret Weapon](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1221-infrastructure-as-code-the-developer-s-secret-weapon) - [Terraform for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/3-terraform-for-developers) - [Remote Driving on Plant Grounds with State-of-the-Art Cloud Technologies](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/251-remote-driving-on-plant-grounds-with-state-of-the-art-cloud-technologies) ## Related Articles - [The 13 Best Python Libraries for Developers in 2025](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/371-the-13-best-python-libraries-for-developers-in-2025) - [Dev Digest 121 - AI goes offline](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/456-dev-digest-121-ai-goes-offline) - [The Biggest German Tech Companies](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/424-the-biggest-german-tech-companies) - [Fully Remote Software Engineer Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/447-fully-remote-software-engineer-jobs) - [The Most Popular IT Jobs on the Market](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/376-the-most-popular-it-jobs-on-the-market) - [Backend Developer Salary in Germany [2023]](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/196-backend-developer-salary-in-germany-2023)
