Preferred: * Master's degree in mechanical, civil, marine, materials, aerospace engineering * Experience with finite element analysis or computer aided design * Experience with drafting * Experience with project management, obsolescence management, or planning * Technical writing experience * U.S. Navy experience Skills Strong communication, technical leadership, high ownership, problem solving, team focus ## Description D471 Commissioned Ship Propulsion Plant Mechanical Engineering supports mission readiness of LOS ANGELES, OHIO, SEAWOLF, and VIRGINIA Class commissioned submarines by providing engineering technical support for modernization and maintenance of the reactor plant. RPPY engineers also provide engineering support for Naval Nuclear Power Training Units, which include the Moored Training Ships and the S8G Prototype., This position requires the ability to resolve a wide variety of technical challenges, directly supporting day to day maintenance of the commissioned fleet. These challenges are limited in scope, but provide direct benefit to the fleet. In addition to these shorter term tasks, an engineer in this position will also have the opportunity to act as the lead engineer on alteration packages to support fleet modernization and increased capability.
