Success Profile The successful Integration Engineer will be a hands-on problem solver who can work through incomplete documentation, inconsistent legacy interfaces, and unclear system ownership. The company needs someone capable of understanding what good integration architecture looks like while also being willing to build mappings, troubleshoot files, inspect payloads, and personally resolve production issues. Someone coming from a highly segmented organization-where separate teams handle every protocol, platform, mapping, deployment, and support function-may not be as successful as an engineer accustomed to owning integrations from discovery through production support. ## Description The Integration Engineer will design, build, troubleshoot, and support external customer integrations and internal system-to-system integrations across a growing semiconductor manufacturing company. The organization has an immediate externally facing customer-integration initiative as well as numerous internal applications and data sources that do not currently communicate effectively. The company has not yet selected a formal enterprise integration platform, so this role requires someone with strong foundational integration experience who is comfortable working across multiple formats, protocols, systems, and architectural approaches. This position is ideal for an engineer who understands EDI-style and commerce integrations but is not dependent upon one specific integration product., * Design, develop, test, deploy, and support integrations between customers, enterprise applications, manufacturing systems, data platforms, and internal business systems. * Support a major externally facing integration initiative with one of the company's customers. * Develop internal integrations that allow currently disconnected systems and data sources to communicate. * Build integrations using formats and methods such as: + EDI-style transactions + CSV and other flat-file formats + Pipe-delimited files + XML + REST or other APIs + Batch and scheduled data exchanges * Create mappings, transformations, validation rules, routing logic, and exception-handling processes. * Work with business and technical stakeholders to define integration requirements, data contracts, source-to-target mappings, and operational expectations. * Troubleshoot failed transactions, data-quality issues, connectivity problems, format discrepancies, and downstream processing errors. * Implement logging, monitoring, alerting, retry, reconciliation, and support procedures. * Document interface designs, dependencies, mappings, endpoints, credentials, schedules, support ownership, and recovery processes. * Evaluate the current integration landscape and identify opportunities to standardize or simplify point-to-point connections. * Provide technical input into the evaluation and selection of a future enterprise integration platform. * Ensure new integrations are designed so they can transition into a formal integration platform once one is selected. * Partner with the data-engineering team on integrations that feed enterprise data lakes, warehouses, analytics platforms, and AI solutions. * Support appropriate security, access, segregation, and customer-data protection requirements. ## Related Videos - [Empowering Retail Through Applied Machine Learning](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/976-empowering-retail-through-applied-machine-learning) - [Crypto-secure Data Management with In-Database Blockchain](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/632-crypto-secure-data-management-with-in-database-blockchain) - [Smart City, Smart Mobility](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/954-smart-city-smart-mobility) - [Why make use of an integration platform in today's software developments and infrastructure?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/758-why-make-use-of-an-integration-platform-in-today-s-software-developments-and-infrastructure) - [The Data Mesh as the end of the Datalake as we know it](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/156-the-data-mesh-as-the-end-of-the-datalake-as-we-know-it) - [The Intent Engineer: Closing the Gap Between Business & Engineering - Manuel Klein](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1855-the-intent-engineer-closing-the-gap-between-business-engineering-manuel-klein) ## Related Articles - [Is Software Engineering Over-Saturated?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/418-is-software-engineering-over-saturated) - [System change: restart as developer?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/39-system-change-restart-as-developer) - [Where To Find Software Engineering Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/396-where-to-find-software-engineering-jobs) - [Where to Find Entry-Level Software Engineering Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/397-where-to-find-entry-level-software-engineering-jobs) - [Fully Remote Software Engineer Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/447-fully-remote-software-engineer-jobs) - [The Most Popular IT Jobs on the Market](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/376-the-most-popular-it-jobs-on-the-market)
