They're looking for a hands-on Firmware QA Engineer who enjoys working directly with hardware, validating firmware releases, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring products perform flawlessly before reaching customers. If you prefer real-world hardware testing over building automated test frameworks, this is an excellent opportunity to make a direct impact on product quality. What You'll Do * Validate firmware releases on embedded hardware against defined requirements * Execute manual regression testing across device functionality, including: + Power management + Sensors + Charging + Connectivity + Fault recovery * Perform ship testing and pre-deployment verification on production devices * Configure hardware and verify release readiness before customer deployment * Execute smoke, regression, and targeted firmware test suites * Validate GPS performance, including: + Time to first fix + Signal accuracy + Signal recovery + Low-signal scenarios * Reproduce firmware issues using logs, serial interfaces, and lab tools * Partner closely with firmware and hardware engineers to validate expected behavior and edge cases * Verify connectivity, pairing, and firmware stability * Assist in troubleshooting customer-reported issues by gathering logs and helping isolate root causes * Write light Python or shell scripts to streamline repetitive testing tasks (automation is a plus but not the primary focus) * Communicate testing results, quality risks, and release readiness to cross-functional teams ## Related Videos - [MCP doesn’t suck — your agent does](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100202-mcp-doesn-t-suck-your-agent-does) - [Old tools, new tricks](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1916-old-tools-new-tricks) - [Playing Pong on a shoulder press machine](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100140-playing-pong-on-a-shoulder-press-machine) - [On developing smartphones on wheels](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/258-on-developing-smartphones-on-wheels) - [Reusing apps between teams and environments through Containers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/107-reusing-apps-between-teams-and-environments-through-containers) - [Agent Smith Gets Hardware: Autonomous IoT Hacking From Debug Port to Cloud API](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100258-agent-smith-gets-hardware-autonomous-iot-hacking-from-debug-port-to-cloud-api) ## Related Articles - [The 8 Best Code Testing Tools](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/402-the-8-best-code-testing-tools) - [How software is steering vehicle technology](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/515-how-software-is-steering-vehicle-technology) - [Should senior developers refuse interview coding challenges?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/29-should-senior-developers-refuse-interview-coding-challenges) - [How to create a test plan for software testing](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/56-how-to-create-a-test-plan-for-software-testing) - [Highest Paying Tech Companies for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/220-highest-paying-tech-companies-for-developers) - [How to Write a CV and Interview if You Don't Fully Qualify For The Job](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/183-how-to-write-a-cv-and-interview-if-you-don-t-fully-qualify-for-the-job)
