You will work on solving real challenges in a fast-paced environment, working closely with a multidisciplinary team of electrical, controls, and higher-level software engineers to build reliable, observable, and debuggable robotics systems. You will operate at the boundary between hardware and software, with a strong electrical engineering mindset, helping to architect the future of robotics through best-in-class, modern software engineering practices. This is an individual contributor role. You will be the main owner of the firmware across our robotics platforms - from concept through implementation, validation, and long-term maintenance. It is not a management position, and we're looking for someone who thrives working autonomously and taking end-to-end technical ownership, while collaborating closely with the wider hardware and software teams. Day-to-day * Design, implement, and maintain embedded firmware for real-time systems: control, sensing, and system monitoring * Own the full firmware lifecycle: architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance * Debug complex system-level issues where the root cause may span software, firmware, hardware, or component behavior * Use hardware debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and DMMs to diagnose timing, signaling, and electrical issues * Act as the technical bridge between hardware and software, collaborating closely with EEs, controls, motion planning, and systems engineers * Advise leadership on firmware-related technical decisions and strategy * Drive technical decision making and implementation through hands-on and technically deep work Ownership Areas Control systems, including power Stages and Motor control, embedded communications, system health monitoring/logging, and hardware bring-up. Tech Stack * MCUs: TI c28x MCUs * Languages: C / C++ * Supporting Systems: Linux host OS, NodeJS / TypeScript, Docker * Tooling: GitHub Actions, CI/CD * Protocols: CANOpenFD, BISSC, SSI, UART, I2C. ## Related Videos - [Docker network without Docker](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1418-docker-network-without-docker) - [More efficient software for more efficient microchips](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1164-more-efficient-software-for-more-efficient-microchips) - [Docker Compose: Rediscovered](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1978-docker-compose-rediscovered) - [Innovating Developer Tools with AI: Insights from GitHub Next](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1268-innovating-developer-tools-with-ai-insights-from-github-next) - [Docker exec without Docker](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1094-docker-exec-without-docker) - [Docker build without Docker](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100114-docker-build-without-docker) ## Related Articles - [Fully Remote Software Engineer Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/447-fully-remote-software-engineer-jobs) - [Is Software Engineering Hard?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/448-is-software-engineering-hard) - [Where to Find Entry-Level Software Engineering Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/397-where-to-find-entry-level-software-engineering-jobs) - [Where To Find Software Engineering Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/396-where-to-find-software-engineering-jobs) - [Dev Digest 121 - AI goes offline](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/456-dev-digest-121-ai-goes-offline) - [The Ultimate Software Engineer Career Path Guide for 2023](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/146-the-ultimate-software-engineer-career-path-guide-for-2023)
