International Journal of Communication, (16), *********.Research Project DescriptionOver recent years, major political bodies such as the European Commission *****) have consistently warned that the scale of disinformation represents one of the most serious threats to society at large and to contemporary democratic systems in particular (Syrovátka et al., ****; Bradshaw and Howard, ****; Bennet and Livingstone, ****). The political dimension of disinformation became especially visible during two landmark events: the **** United States presidential election and the Brexit referendum. According to the academic literature, these moments marked the beginning of a broader pattern that has since unfolded across multiple electoral contexts worldwide. Following the **** US election, disinformation has been documented in numerous subsequent processes, including the **** Brazilian elections (Santos, ****) and the **** US elections (Benaissa, ****; ****). More broadly, its presence has been identified in a wide range of cases, such as the **** Cape Verdean presidential elections (Novais, ****), the **** independence referendum (Alandete, ****), the April **** Spanish general elections (Magallón?Rosa, ****), and the Portuguese parliamentary elections held that same year (Baptista & Gradim, ****).The USP?CEU node of Iberifier has been studying the impact of disinformation in the Iberian region over the last years, with a special emphasis on fact?checking and media literacy to counter its harming effects. The proposed research project would continue these lines of enquiry and add insights on the new challenges that have been shaping more recent realities, such as the increasingly blurred boundaries in the perception of real vs fabricated content brought along by the development of AI tools, or the need for specific AI literacy actions to empower citizens in digital environments.Candidate requirements:PhD in Communication or Information Science and EngineeringStrong background on the study of political systems and the mass mediaPreferred acquaintance with research on media influence and information disorders. Keywords:Media and Information Literacy, AI Literacy, Disinformation, Polarisation, Democracy#J-*****-Ljbffr ## Related Videos - [Edit Your Future: Queerverse Radical AI](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/909-edit-your-future-queerverse-radical-ai) - [The Four Horsemen of the Information Apocalypse: Taming the Wild West of Information Overload](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1449-the-four-horsemen-of-the-information-apocalypse-taming-the-wild-west-of-information-overload) - [Resolving technical debts in software architecture](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1680-resolving-technical-debts-in-software-architecture) - [AI is dead, long live AK](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1093-ai-is-dead-long-live-ak) - [Demystifying Crypto & Web3: A Technical Journey Through 15 Years of Innovation](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1516-demystifying-crypto-web3-a-technical-journey-through-15-years-of-innovation) - [Coffee with Developers - Maria Apazoglou](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1209-coffee-with-developers-maria-apazoglou) ## Related Articles - [The Rise of Disinformation on the Web](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/539-the-rise-of-disinformation-on-the-web) - [Dev Digest 196: AI Killed DevOps, LLM Political Bias & AI Security](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/659-dev-digest-196-ai-killed-devops-llm-political-bias-ai-security) - [Dev Digest 132 - Binging WADFlix?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/473-dev-digest-132-binging-wadflix) - [Dev Digest 138 - Are you secure about this?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/486-dev-digest-138-are-you-secure-about-this) - [Navigating the AI Shift](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/629-navigating-the-ai-shift) - [Dev Digest 164: AI Agents, AI Blindspots and MCP security problems](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/578-dev-digest-164-ai-agents-ai-blindspots-and-mcp-security-problems)
