You'll drive engineering rigor, contribute to architecture decisions, and shape how production and process development share data and control. You'll work closely with mechanical, electrical, and process engineers to translate physical constraints into robust software behavior and enable safe, scalable automation. This is an opportunity to influence critical infrastructure that brings advanced micromanufacturing online and scalable AI-driven insights to the shop floor. Compensation / Benefits * Design and build distributed software systems coordinating state, timing, and behavior across manufacturing hardware * Develop workflows bridging manual and automated process steps with production/process development handoffs * Evolve and instrument APIs to govern machine behavior across the fleet * Instrument systems to surface machine/process data for downstream AI/ML use * Investigate and resolve issues spanning software, firmware, and hardware * Establish and model software engineering practices (testing, code review, CI/CD, documentation) * Contribute to reliability through observability, fault handling, and graceful degradation * Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and process engineers to translate physical constraints into software behavior * Partner with leadership to converge architectural visions into a single direction Tasks * 5+ years building or debugging systems with real external dependencies (hardware, embedded devices, networked services) * Track record of making and defending nontrivial architecture decisions (build vs. buy, deployment topology, service boundaries) * Strong Python skills for production systems, plus proficiency in C++, Rust, or Go * Solid grounding in distributed systems fundamentals: state coordination, consistency, failure modes, concurrency * Experience introducing or maintaining CI/CD, automated testing, or observability tooling in a codebase lacking them * Comfort operating against incomplete or contested specifications and driving clarity * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or related field, or equivalent experience Key requirements * equity * benefits * salary range * location flexibility implied by on-prem vs cloud discussions ## Related Videos - [Shipping Faster with Less: Render on Cloud Hosting, AI Workloads, and the Future of DevOps](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1894-shipping-faster-with-less-render-on-cloud-hosting-ai-workloads-and-the-future-of-devops) - [Are Code Reviews Worth It?
