Knowledge of: Internal combustion engine systems Electrical power generation and distribution Preventive maintenance processes Safety protocols and hazardous material procedures Skills in: Reading technical drawings, schematics, and manuals Using diagnostic tools and test equipment Troubleshooting and major repair of mechanical/electrical systems Certifications (Preferred): OSHA 30 or equivalent Formal technical training in power generation systems Education High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Technical school or military training in diesel mechanics, power generation systems, or related field preferred. ## Description As a Powered Support Systems Mechanic, you will: Install, inspect, and perform modifications and repairs on electrical power support systems including electrical power plants, switchgear, and power distribution panels. Troubleshoot and repair power system components such as: Generators, voltage regulators, governors, starter motors, fuel pumps, and oil pumps. Operate and maintain electrical controls, such as manual/remote switches, circuit breakers, rheostats, and automatic transfer switches. Conduct preventive maintenance, including: Checking fluid levels (fuel, coolant, lubricants, battery water) Replacing filters, spark plugs, belts, and batteries Adjusting safety and thermal controls Perform diagnostic checks and load testing to ensure system readiness and performance. Overhaul major engine assemblies and components (3-8 cylinders, up to 500 HP). Read and interpret technical data: wiring schematics, blueprints, and manufacturer's manuals. Use hand tools and test equipment such as multimeters, circuit analyzers, watt meters, meggers, and more. Document maintenance actions in accordance with standard operating procedures and technical manuals. Train and guide junior personnel or lower-graded employees. Ensure adherence to all local and federal safety standards, including PPE usage and hazardous material handling. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a U.S. Citizen or authorized to work in the U.S. Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening. May be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance. May be subject to random drug testing. Must be physically able to lift, climb, kneel, and work in confined spaces. Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and comply with site safety protocols., The work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. The position may require exposure to dust, grease, electrical hazards, moving parts, and hazardous materials. Proper use of PPE is mandatory.
