This position offers students a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in information technology while supporting staff who help power the department's technology services. As a Student Assistant, you will work closely with our Service Desk team and other IT professionals who support employees across the Department of Conservation. This role is ideal for students interested in careers in information technology, cybersecurity, networking, application development, enterprise systems, or any related field. Conditions of Employment This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause. Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check: educational verification (degree, license, or official transcript) or DMV clearance. Prerequisites Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list. Majors/Fields of Study Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Software Engineering Work Schedule Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday - Friday, between 8 AM - 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor. Additional Work Schedule Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer)., * Assist other IT staff to ensure Department staff and business partners are provided with consistent, predictable and acceptable levels of system availability, security and functionality. * This position requires the use of effective communication skills and the ability to read and write in English and do simple arithmetic computations. * Answer the Service Desk phone and email; provide customer support and remote assistance via PC or telephone to users experiencing issues with desktops, laptops, printers, operating systems and software issues. * Under close supervision, responds to the most straightforward requests for assistance, documenting or troubleshooting basic IT problems, forwarding more complex issues to senior level staff when appropriate. * Utilizes the Service Desk's ticketing system to assign service requests to IT staff and track support calls. * Assists IT staff in the setup, installation, configuration, deployment and maintenance of desktops, laptops, printers, PDAs, other peripheral devices and application software. * Assists with receiving and surplusing of computer equipment; input purchase orders and inventory into various databases; assists in physical inventory of computer equipment. * Open and date stamp various incoming service desk documents such as user administration forms, network access forms; scan documents and file.
