Experience with distributed systems and concurrent or parallel programming. Working knowledge of distributed storage system concepts: replication, consistency, fault tolerance, or metadata management. Hands-on experience with at least one distributed storage system (Ozone, HDFS, Ceph, MinIO, or equivalent) beyond consumer-level usage. Familiarity with JVM performance characteristics (GC, memory, threading). Advanced level of English. Nice To Have Upstream contributions to Apache Ozone, HDFS, or the broader Hadoop ecosystem; committer status is a strong plus. Experience operating distributed storage at petabyte scale in production. Knowledge of erasure coding, distributed consensus systems, or object storage protocols. Exposure to the lakehouse ecosystem (Iceberg, Hive, Parquet, ORC). Kubernetes and cloud-native storage deployment experience. Public technical presence (talks, blogs, OSS community leadership). How we do make your work (and your life) ## Description centers on Apache Ozone and the wider Hadoop ecosystem (HDFS, Iceberg, Hive, Parquet, ORC), with ample scope for upstream contribution. We're looking for engineers who have architected or contributed to distributed storage systems like Ozone, HDFS, Ceph, or MinIO and are comfortable with replication, consistency, and high availability architectures. What You'll Do Contribute production-grade code to the Apache Ozone project. Debug and optimize Ozone internals - replication, consistency, metadata management, OM/SCM/DataNode coordination - at petabyte scale. Address complex distributed issues: replication failures, networking, disk I/O, concurrency. Improve performance and scalability of distributed storage operations. Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and open source committers on integrations and ecosystem work. Mentor senior engineers and raise the engineering bar through code reviews and design critiques.
