The agency is running a data center lift-and-shift to AWS and this person is the escalation point for it. Direct Connect, Transit Gateway, VPC routing. The attachment is the JD plus the phone screen guide we use. Please run the screen before submitting. The Nexus and vPC questions and the AWS hybrid question are where this req gets decided. A candidate who cannot walk through an NX-OS upgrade on a vPC pair is not the person, no matter how the resume reads. That is the part that will save us both a week., Experience Requirement Ten (10) years Experience in a large government organization responsible for administering, operating, maintaining, and securing a large-scale internetworking environment - including six (6) years in a technical leadership or supervisory role supporting on-prem and/or emerging AWS cloud networking initiatives. Eight (8) years Directly supporting a complex infrastructure covering the major aspects of network administration, with expertise troubleshooting IPv4 issues across protocols and technologies such as OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, static routing, SSH, ACLs, VLAN, VTP, STP, SNMP, LACP, vPC, virtual port channels, Wireshark, and tcpdump - with added familiarity in hybrid connectivity to AWS environments. Eight (8) years Strong hands-on experience implementing and troubleshooting Cisco switches (9300, 5300, 3850, 2960, and Nexus 2K, 5K, and 7K series) and validating interoperability with AWS networking components such as VPCs, Direct Connect, and Transit Gateway. Five (5) years Configuring, administering, and maintaining network IT monitoring and management software such as NetScout nGenius and SolarWinds (NetFlow traffic analysis, bandwidth monitoring, PerfStack, network performance baselines, Traffic Analyzer, IPAM, and NetPath) - including monitoring hybrid on-prem/AWS network paths. Three (3) years Data center operations, with thorough knowledge of data center hardware specifications, lights-out management solutions, Ethernet cable crimping, network cable runs and best practices, power requirements, racking, and decommissioning of hardware. In addition: Thorough knowledge of telecommunications and network security issues and best practices, with awareness of AWS security fundamentals such as IAM, security groups, and cloud network segmentation. Exceptional customer service orientation and written and oral communication skills, with the ability to explain hybrid cloud networking concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Preferred technical certifications: CCNP Enterprise CCNP Data Center CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure ## Description This is a senior, shift-based role on a team supporting Cisco telecommunications devices, providing engineering and data center management support. Specifically, the Network Engineer 4: Demonstrates very strong Cisco analytical skills to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve network-related business requirements and ongoing production incidents across on-prem and AWS-connected environments. Serves as an escalated point of contact for Cisco telecommunications equipment and hybrid network connectivity supporting AWS workloads. Deploys new and troubleshoots existing Ethernet and fiber cable runs, performs data center hardware rack installations, updates and maintains rack elevation diagrams, and leads new hardware/software deployments, technical refreshes, and upgrades - including systems participating in the AWS lift-and-shift migration. Performs NX-OS and IOS patch-management upgrades on all Cisco telecommunications equipment and validates interoperability with AWS networking components such as VPCs, Direct Connect, and Transit Gateway. Develops and documents high-level system engineering designs, scope requirements, test cases, standard operating procedures, and implementation plans for both on-prem and AWS-integrated network architectures. Presents technical proof-of-concepts and demonstrations to coworkers, management, and the customer, including cloud networking designs and AWS migration approaches. Remains available and flexible for production-incident troubleshooting and supports scheduled after-hours and weekend maintenance activities for on-prem and AWS-connected systems. Provides training and guidance to junior network and data-center engineers on hybrid cloud networking fundamentals and AWS connectivity best practices. Manages the priorities of the customer's requests and incidents using a proprietary ticketing system while documenting AWS-related tasks and cloud-migration activities. ## Related Videos - [How Cisco embraced a DevOps culture within its network engineering team](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/99-how-cisco-embraced-a-devops-culture-within-its-network-engineering-team) - [IP Authentication: A Tale of Performance Pitfalls and Challenges in Prod](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1413-ip-authentication-a-tale-of-performance-pitfalls-and-challenges-in-prod) - [Your Infrastructure Is Not a Playground: AI Agents for Infra Done Right](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/2084-your-infrastructure-is-not-a-playground-ai-agents-for-infra-done-right) - [Computer Vision from the Edge to the Cloud done easy](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/263-computer-vision-from-the-edge-to-the-cloud-done-easy) - [What makes Cybersecurity different for critical infrastructure?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/571-what-makes-cybersecurity-different-for-critical-infrastructure) - [Demystifying application networking in the cloud](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/675-demystifying-application-networking-in-the-cloud) ## Related Articles - [How We Built a Worry-Free System That Runs for 10+ Years – And What We’d Do Again](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/751-how-we-built-a-worry-free-system-that-runs-for-10-years-and-what-we-d-do-again) - [Best US AI Conferences for CTOs in 2026: Build vs. Buy, Vendor Evaluation, and Peer Intelligence](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/736-best-us-ai-conferences-for-ctos-in-2026-build-vs-buy-vendor-evaluation-and-peer-intelligence) - [What Are The Top Skills Required For Azure Developers?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/77-what-are-the-top-skills-required-for-azure-developers) - [Highest Paying Tech Companies for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/220-highest-paying-tech-companies-for-developers) - [What Makes WeAreDevelopers World Congress Different From Every Other Tech Event?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/701-what-makes-wearedevelopers-world-congress-different-from-every-other-tech-event) - [Dev Digest 134 - Where pixels sing?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/477-dev-digest-134-where-pixels-sing)
