In this role, you will design, enhance, and optimize scalable COBOL applications and core banking transaction components in a modern software engineering environment. location: Telecommute job type: Contract salary: $45 - 50 per hour work hours: 8am to 5pm education: Bachelors responsibilities: * Design, write, and optimize high-performing COBOL code across mainframe system components. * Implement robust mainframe architecture patterns to ensure reliable batch and online transaction processing. * Partner with technical leads, business analysts, and cross-functional teams to translate requirements into technical designs. * Troubleshoot complex system issues, perform root-cause analysis, and optimize core database/VSAM interactions. * Enforce rigorous software engineering standards through unit testing, code reviews, and technical documentation. qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science. 5+ years of hands-on experience in COBOL programming and Mainframe system architecture (z/OS, JCL, CICS, DB2). 3+ years of direct experience within the Banking or Financial Services domain. Strong background in software engineering best practices, data modeling, and performance tuning. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience operating within Agile/Scrum development teams. Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience presenting technical concepts to key stakeholders.
