We will expect the successful candidate to have knowledge and skills in experience designing that is evidence-based - bringing together user research and insight with UX/UI expertise, to create services that help people complete their journeys and goals. You will be expected to define and map end-to-end user and customer journeys, develop prototypes from rough concepts to hi-fidelity interactive experiences, create new design patterns and modify existing ones and help build and design clients' design systems. Therefore, you will have an outstanding portfolio, showing work across a variety of platforms and media, demonstrating high fidelity UI designs, wireframes, user flows and personas, and/or layout, colour, branding and typographic-led designs, design patterns and systems. We also expect the successful candidate to demonstrate their experience in designing services for users that struggle online, perhaps through disability, lack of digital confidence, age or neurodiversity and understand what is needed to build an inclusive service. * Minimum 2 years' commercial experience in UX and/or Interaction Design * User-centred design methodology, including conceptual sketching and visualisation, journey mapping, defining UX principles, information architecture and rapid prototyping * User research methods, including user needs insight and analysis, usability testing and A/B testing * Fluency in mobile-first and responsive design patterns * Proficiency in tools such as Figma or similar such as Gov.UK Toolkit * Ability to articulate design rationale to stakeholders, receiving and acting on feedback * Experience of working in multi-discipline, cross-functional teams, alongside researchers, content designers, service designers and developers * Knowledge of the latest Accessibility standards and inclusive design methods, including WCAG 2.2, the Equality Act and GovUK Service Manual * Working with design systems and creating common, shareable design patterns that maintain consistency for the user experience and ensure governance in delivery * Ability to design at the systems level, not just the screen level * A growth mindset * AI curious and ready to embrace opportunities Desirable: * Basic front-end literacy, including HTML, CSS and JavaScript to have informed conversations with engineers * Experience working in central and/or local government, transport, justice, health, trade, water, energy and education * Understanding of the growing role and potential of AI tools in design, including prompt design, first-draft UI and code generation and designing for conversational and voice interfaces * Experience in designing services that use AI to enhance the user experience and/or using AI to develop coded prototypes from your designs * Appreciation of AI ethics and designing for trust, including the boundaries around automation and ability to review outputs for quality and accuracy * Experience working to Agile methodology * Visual / graphic design ## Description We value authenticity and transparency in our hiring process.
