## About the Role

* Strong backend engineering experience with Python as a primary language
 * Hands-on experience building and operating services on AWS
 * Experience designing and delivering APIs and microservices
 * Working knowledge of distributed systems or event-driven architectures
 * Strong experience with unit and functional tests preferably by using TDD
 * Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and production support
 * Ability to debug and resolve issues in production environments
 * Problem solver with a curious, proactive mindset and a strong sense of ownership
 * A pragmatic mindset with the ability to deliver value while maintaining quality

## Description

Join us as a Software Engineer in Sky's Content Platform, building and operating the systems that power content delivery at scale. From video ingest and encoding to metadata and distribution, you'll work on high-impact services used by millions of customers while delivering reliable, scalable solutions in a fast-moving, cloud-native environment.

Please note - this is a hybrid role with an on-call rotation twice a month.

What you'll do

 * Build and operate Python-based services on AWS using microservices and event-driven architecture
 * Deliver independently deployable features with a strong focus on quality, reliability, and performance
 * Write clean, maintainable Python code and contribute to code reviews to maintain high engineering standards
 * Write comprehensive unit and functional tests to keep code quality
 * Own services end to end, including deployment, monitoring, and production support, with out-of-hours participation where required
 * Develop and improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure as code
 * Work on systems supporting video ingest, encoding, metadata, and content distribution workflows
 * Use observability and metrics to identify issues and improve system performance
 * Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and QA to deliver high-quality solutions
