You will work directly with senior engineering leadership to define technical direction, defend design trade-offs at an advanced level, and drive hands-on implementation across the platform. Success in the first 90 days means demonstrating command of the existing event-driven architecture and proposing concrete improvements backed by clear architectural reasoning., * Architect and evolve enterprise-scale, event-driven Java systems, defining service boundaries, messaging patterns, and long-term technical roadmaps. * Design and optimize Apache Kafka streaming architectures, including topic and partition strategy, consumer group topology, schema evolution, and exactly-once delivery guarantees. * Lead architectural decision-making and clearly articulate design trade-offs to engineering leadership and stakeholders. * Provide hands-on technical leadership across Java, Spring Boot, and microservices, writing and reviewing production-critical code alongside the team. * Apply domain-driven design and distributed systems patterns, including CQRS, Saga, and Event Sourcing, to solve complex business problems. * Partner with cross-functional engineering teams to standardize architecture practices and drive consistent adoption across the platform. * Mentor engineers on Kafka internals, reactive programming, and enterprise architecture principles. * Collaborate with DevOps to ensure secure, scalable deployment of event-driven services across cloud environments. ## Related Videos - [Kafka Streams Microservices](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/168-kafka-streams-microservices) - [From DevOps to Scaled DevOps: How We’re Rebuilding Continuous Delivery as a Platform](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100018-from-devops-to-scaled-devops-how-we-re-rebuilding-continuous-delivery-as-a-platform) - [Docker Compose: Rediscovered](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1978-docker-compose-rediscovered) - [Rate-limiting using eBPF and Istio: How to protect your SaaS customers from themselves](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100220-rate-limiting-using-ebpf-and-istio-how-to-protect-your-saas-customers-from-themselves) - [Event-Driven Microservices: Patterns and Practices - Lutz Heunkhen](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1826-event-driven-microservices-patterns-and-practices-lutz-heunkhen) - [DevOps Maturity Check – a way to balance autonomy and alignment](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/58-devops-maturity-check-a-way-to-balance-autonomy-and-alignment) ## Related Articles - [How We Built a Worry-Free System That Runs for 10+ Years – And What We’d Do Again](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/751-how-we-built-a-worry-free-system-that-runs-for-10-years-and-what-we-d-do-again) - [Why Event-Driven Architecture Isn’t About Speed (and When You Actually Need It)](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/745-why-event-driven-architecture-isn-t-about-speed-and-when-you-actually-need-it) - [Top Must-Visit Developer Conferences in the US in 2026](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/679-top-must-visit-developer-conferences-in-the-us-in-2026) - [Why Attend a Developer Event in 2026?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/688-why-attend-a-developer-event-in-2026) - [Dev Digest 121 - AI goes offline](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/456-dev-digest-121-ai-goes-offline) - [Highest Paying Tech Companies for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/220-highest-paying-tech-companies-for-developers)
