Must be able to pass and maintain a favorable background investigation for access to the client environment. + Proven effectiveness working remotely on a distributed team: self-directed, disciplined about documentation, and responsive during client core business hours. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS + Prior experience in a DOE national laboratory, federal, FedRAMP, or other regulated, compliance-driven environment. + Relevant certifications: AWS Solutions Architect / DevOps Engineer (Professional) or Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert / Azure DevOps Engineer Expert. + Experience handling Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and applying NIST 800-171 / 800-53 controls in practice. + Containerization and orchestration experience (Docker, Kubernetes, EKS/AKS). + Experience developing cloud strategy artifacts - reference architectures, roadmaps, migration assessments, or cost/benefit analyses - for enterprise stakeholders. + Exposure to research or scientific computing environments, including HPC integration or large-scale data movement. + Experience with policy-as-code and drift detection (Open Policy Agent, Sentinel, Azure Policy, AWS Config rules). + FinOps experience or certification, or a track record of measurable cloud cost reduction. + An active or recently active DOE clearance (L or Q). ## Description + Develop cloud architecture and reference designs for AWS and Azure, and guide workload placement decisions across the multi-cloud estate. + Contribute to cloud strategy and roadmap planning with client stakeholders - modernization sequencing, platform selection, migration planning, and the business case behind each. + Design, deploy, and operate secure, scalable cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure in support of mission, enterprise IT, and research computing workloads. + Author and maintain Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred; CloudFormation, Bicep, or ARM as applicable) so that environments are reproducible, version-controlled, and peer-reviewed. + Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application deployment, with automated testing, policy checks, and controlled promotion across environments. + Implement cloud security and governance: identity and access management, network and enclave segmentation, encryption and key management, data classification handling (including CUI), and log aggregation into the enterprise SIEM. + Apply and document compliance controls aligned to NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, and DOE cybersecurity requirements, and support assessment, authorization, and continuous-monitoring activities. * Drive observability and reliability: monitoring, alerting, logging, capacity planning, backup and recovery, and participation in incident response and root-cause analysis. + Own cloud cost management: tagging discipline, rightsizing, reserved capacity and savings plans, budget alerting, and clear chargeback/showback reporting. + Partner with client technical staff to translate requirements into architecture, document designs and runbooks, present recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences, and raise the overall cloud maturity of the teams you support. + Contribute to standardization across clouds so that patterns established in one platform are deliberately mirrored in the other rather than reinvented. POSITION A - AWS EMPHASIS * Own AWS landing zone, multi-account, and Organizations/Control Tower architecture, including SCPs and account vending. * Engineer core AWS services: IAM, VPC and hybrid connectivity, EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, ECS/EKS, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Config, GuardDuty, and Security Hub. * Serve as the technical reference point for AWS design reviews, cost optimization, and Well-Architected assessments. POSITION B - AZURE EMPHASIS + Own Azure landing zone design, subscription and management-group structure, Azure Policy, and Blueprints. + Engineer core Azure services: Entra ID (Azure AD), Virtual Networks and ExpressRoute, Azure VMs, Storage, Azure SQL, Functions, AKS, Monitor/Log Analytics, and Defender for Cloud. + Serve as the technical reference point for Azure identity integration, hybrid Active Directory alignment, and Microsoft 365 / Azure boundary questions., + Fully onboarded and productive: environment access established and first infrastructure changes shipped through the existing CI/CD pipeline. + A documented current-state assessment of your primary cloud estate, with prioritized recommendations for security, reliability, and cost. + At least one meaningful standardization win delivered - a landing zone pattern, policy baseline, or pipeline improvement adopted by the team. + Trusted working relationships established with client technical staff and the existing UGT team, despite the distributed model. + Cross-training underway in the secondary cloud platform, with a visible contribution made outside your primary specialty. WORK ARRANGEMENT & ELIGIBILITY + Direct full-time W-2 employment with United Global Technologies, Inc., on a long-term dedicated assignment. + Fully remote within the United States, with availability aligned to client core business hours.
