The qualifications are: - Five years of experience in networking and/or telecommunications. The networking and/or telecommunications experience must have involved the design, analysis, capacity planning, monitoring, performance evaluation, and/or tuning of a data communications/telecommunications network. Substitution: A bachelor's degree in any field including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in networking and/or telecommunications AND two years of experience in networking and/or telecommunications; OR a bachelor's or higher level degree in any field AND three years of experience in networking and/or telecommunications; OR an associate degree with 15 semester credit hours in networking and/or telecommunications AND four years of experience in networking and/or telecommunications. PROMOTION: Current State employees must have 1 year of permanent competitive, non-competitive NY HELPS, or 55-b/55-c service as an Information Technology Specialist 2, Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming), or Supervising Computer Operator. COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Information Technology Specialist 3 (Data Communications). Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for this title. Section 70.1 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-21 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Candidates must possess a current 55b/c eligibility letter and meet the minimum qualifications. ## Description Duties Description The New York State Education Department's (NYSED) Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking candidates for an Information Technology Specialist 3 (Data Communications) position within the Networking team. The incumbent of this position will be responsible for the installation, configuration, and administration of network devices and infrastructure. Working with end users team members to ensure the network (and technologies associated) continue to thrive and strengthen. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Support NYSED's network infrastructure of routers, switches, firewalls, LAN wiring, fiber optic cabling, network appliances, etc., and ensure network components are functioning optimally; Assist with the design, implementation, and administration of network equipment; Assist with capacity planning and monitoring of network data as we expand out; Assist with DDI, NAC, Wi-Fi, and other network technologies (as procured); Analyze network connectivity and bandwidth issues and perform appropriate remedial action; Develop and maintain system documentation for the agency network, including the creation of LAN and WAN diagrams as needed.
