The successful candidate will ensure the new platform is scalable, secure, resilient, and ready for future growth. You will own modern architecture decisions to ensure the migration is smooth and successful, partnering across teams to deliver complex systems with high quality, reliability, and security. A core focus will be modernizing the technology landscape-simplifying and standardizing platforms, reducing technical debt, and migrating key capabilities from custom, homegrown solutions to secure, supportable off-the-shelf/SaaS and vendor platforms where it improves speed, resiliency, and total cost of ownership. This role drives outcomes through the successful candidate's technical leadership and influence (strong design, clear recommendations, and hands-on delivery), not formal people management. Key Responsibilities: Candidates must possess demonstrated experience in the following areas Own migrations from homegrown to off-the-shelf platforms by defining target-state architecture, building/validating integration and data-migration approaches, planning cutovers, and driving decommission plans with partner teams; ensure business continuity, compliance, and a smooth change-management experience. Deliver complex initiatives pursuant to migration of a legacy to large scale SaaS vendor solution. Own architecture for major business capabilities; Drive scalability and reliability Modernize platform capabilities with strong controls to bring a platform with improved auditability, traceability, retention, and access controls while evolving data models and integrations Support modernization initiatives and legacy-to-modern transitions. Shape platform direction through influence Modernize platforms through intentional architecture-design for extensibility, reduce unnecessary custom build, and choose "buy vs. build" approaches that enable multiple future paths with lower long-term maintenance. Technically evaluate and onboard vendor solutions Raise engineering productivity by introducing reusable platform capabilities, reference architectures, CI/CD and observability standards, and lightweight governance that accelerates delivery across the company. ## Related Videos - [Resolving technical debts in software architecture](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1680-resolving-technical-debts-in-software-architecture) - [Swapping a Data Warehouse at Runtime: Zero-Downtime Migration Without Changing a Single Client](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100311-swapping-a-data-warehouse-at-runtime-zero-downtime-migration-without-changing-a-single-client) - [Beyond the Hype: Building Trustworthy and Reliable LLM Applications with Guardrails](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1594-beyond-the-hype-building-trustworthy-and-reliable-llm-applications-with-guardrails) - [Throwing off the burdens of scale in engineering](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/608-throwing-off-the-burdens-of-scale-in-engineering) - [20 billion requests a week: Upgrading Twilio's API gateway at scale](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100234-20-billion-requests-a-week-upgrading-twilio-s-api-gateway-at-scale) - [How to Destroy a Monolith?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1407-how-to-destroy-a-monolith) ## Related Articles - [Fully Remote Software Engineer Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/447-fully-remote-software-engineer-jobs) - [Dev Digest 120 - Apple and peers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/455-dev-digest-120-apple-and-peers) - [Dev Digest 121 - AI goes offline](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/456-dev-digest-121-ai-goes-offline) - [Is Software Engineering Over-Saturated?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/418-is-software-engineering-over-saturated) - [Why Attend a Developer Event in 2026?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/688-why-attend-a-developer-event-in-2026) - [Where To Find Software Engineering Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/396-where-to-find-software-engineering-jobs)
