Newgradswith strong hardware backgrounds, co-op, or internship experience are welcome * Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent experience; candidates without an EE degree must havedemonstrated, substantial hands-on PCB debug experience * Foundational understanding of computer architecture (CPU/GPU pipelines, memory subsystems, storage interfaces, and peripheral buses)and comfortoperatingin a Linux/Shell environment to interact with embedded targets, extract system logs, and reason about MCU failure modes at a board and system level * Hands-on experience debugging with low-speed communication protocols: I2C, SPI, UARTrequired; high-speed interfaces (USB, PCIe,DP) a strong plus * Comfort reading IC datasheets and understanding SoC peripherals, PMICs, and memory devices to ramp quickly on new parts * Familiarity with PCB-level FA tools: oscilloscope and logic analyzerrequired; TDR and thermal camera experience a plus. Soldering/rework skills helpful but notrequired * Python a strong plus for data scripting and board interaction; SQL helpful for fleet trend queries * Strong attention to detail, structured problem-solving, and clear written and verbal communication * High-volume consumer electronics, semiconductors, or automotive electronics background (helpful, notrequired) * PCBA bring-up, NPI, or manufacturing exposure (helpful, notrequired) ## Description This is a highly individual contributor role, primarily bench and lab work, with fleet and service data analysis to drive prioritization. You own the subsystem end to end, from first fail through validated countermeasures, and engage directly withcomponentand silicon suppliers on complex failure modes. What You'll Do * Investigate field failures on the MCU PCBA (SoC,DDR, power delivery, display ICs, USB, Ethernet, audio, and related ICs) across all vehicle platforms * Use lab and board tools to isolate failures with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, TDR, thermal cameras, and vehicle/system logs (CAN, UART, kernel) * Apply first principles and 5-Why thinking to reach root cause; engage silicon andcomponentsuppliers directly for failure analysis whenrequired * Drive containment and corrective actions through implementation and validation with your team and partner engineering orgs * Use Python, SQL, and fleet data toidentifyreliability trends and prioritize investigations (~30% data, ~70% hands-on hardware) * Collaborate across Infotainment HW, FW, SW, manufacturing, and supplier industrialization teamsto root cause and mitigation failure * Translate root cause findings and reliability trends into clear risk assessments for engineering leadership and cross-functional partners and drive alignment on investigation priority, countermeasure urgency, and closure ## Related Videos - [Docker network without Docker](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1418-docker-network-without-docker) - [Building a hypercar from scratch](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/607-building-a-hypercar-from-scratch) - [10M Data Records Lost, Underwater Computing, and Psychedelic Fish - Matthias Geniar](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1908-10m-data-records-lost-underwater-computing-and-psychedelic-fish-matthias-geniar) - [The Gashlycrumb Tinies of AI Networking You Must Know (or Languish!)](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/2067-the-gashlycrumb-tinies-of-ai-networking-you-must-know-or-languish) - [Develop on Windows, Deploy on Red Hat Enterprise Linux](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1600-develop-on-windows-deploy-on-red-hat-enterprise-linux) - [The best of two worlds - Bringing enterprise-grade Linux to the vehicle](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/67-the-best-of-two-worlds-bringing-enterprise-grade-linux-to-the-vehicle) ## Related Articles - [How software is steering vehicle technology](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/515-how-software-is-steering-vehicle-technology) - [Top Characteristics of a Software Engineer](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/166-top-characteristics-of-a-software-engineer) - [Is Software Engineering Hard?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/448-is-software-engineering-hard) - [What is Software Engineering?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/289-what-is-software-engineering) - [How We Built a Worry-Free System That Runs for 10+ Years – And What We’d Do Again](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/751-how-we-built-a-worry-free-system-that-runs-for-10-years-and-what-we-d-do-again) - [Where To Find Software Engineering Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/396-where-to-find-software-engineering-jobs)
