In this role you will set the architectural direction for the Android codebase, raise the engineering bar across the mobile team, and take ownership of large, ambiguous initiatives from concept through production. You bring deep, hands-on Android expertise and modern Kotlin architecture practices, and you apply that expertise both to your own code and to how the broader team builds. You mentor other engineers, provide architectural guidance across Android teams, and lead design reviews that influence technical decisions across mobile, backend, and product. You are equally comfortable translating complex, ambiguous business problems into scalable technical solutions and communicating those solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. A core part of this role is leading Lingo's transition from React Native to fully native Android, owning the migration strategy and setting the technical standard the rest of the team follows. What You'll Work On * Lead the design and development of complex Android applications and shared mobile platform components (SDKs, libraries, tooling). * Define and drive modern Android architecture standards, including Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines/Flow, MVVM/MVI, and modularization. * Ensure scalable, maintainable, and testable code through strong design patterns and best practices; optimize app performance, reliability, and scalability, including startup time, ANRs, and crash-free sessions. * Own large, ambiguous initiatives from concept to production, establishing long-term Android technical strategy including modularization, CI/CD, build optimization, and observability. * Partner with backend teams to design efficient mobile APIs and offline-first solutions. * Lead the full development lifecycle: architecture, coding, testing, CI/CD, release management, monitoring, and maintenance. * Champion automated testing, code quality standards, and secure mobile development practices. * Implement strong observability practices such as crash analytics and performance monitoring. * Integrate AI/ML capabilities into Android applications, including on-device and cloud-powered solutions, to deliver intelligent, personalized, mobile experiences. * Lead Lingo's migration from React Native to fully native Android, owning migration strategy, sequencing, and architecture decisions, including how to bridge React Native and native code during the transition, and how to preserve feature parity and app stability throughout. * Evaluate existing React Native components and screens for migration complexity, define native module and screen replacement patterns, and set the technical standard the rest of the Android team follows during the transition. * Mentor senior engineers and provide architectural guidance across Android teams. * Lead design reviews and influence technical decisions across mobile, backend, and product teams. * Translate complex business problems into scalable technical solutions and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. ## Related Videos - [Modular Secrets to Lightning-Fast Android Builds](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1428-modular-secrets-to-lightning-fast-android-builds) - [Kotlin Multiplatform - True power of native code reuse](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/4-kotlin-multiplatform-true-power-of-native-code-reuse) - [Putting the Graph In GraphQL With The Neo4j GraphQL Library](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/257-putting-the-graph-in-graphql-with-the-neo4j-graphql-library) - [Android beyond mobile: Cars, TVs, and Wearables](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/553-android-beyond-mobile-cars-tvs-and-wearables) - [Introducing Kotlin Multiplatform in an existing project](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/276-introducing-kotlin-multiplatform-in-an-existing-project) - [Moving from Java to Kotlin](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/384-moving-from-java-to-kotlin) ## Related Articles - [Cross Platform Mobile Development Frameworks to Use in 2025](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/404-cross-platform-mobile-development-frameworks-to-use-in-2025) - [A Guide to Choosing the Right Tools for App Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/391-a-guide-to-choosing-the-right-tools-for-app-developers) - [How We Built a Worry-Free System That Runs for 10+ Years – And What We’d Do Again](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/751-how-we-built-a-worry-free-system-that-runs-for-10-years-and-what-we-d-do-again) - [Top-Paying Tech Jobs (with Salaries)](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/372-top-paying-tech-jobs-with-salaries) - [Basic And Advanced Networking in Dart and Flutter](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/112-basic-and-advanced-networking-in-dart-and-flutter) - [Is Software Engineering Over-Saturated?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/418-is-software-engineering-over-saturated)
