Ability to meet all Department hiring requirements, including passage of a drug test. In-depth knowledge of continuing advancements and best practices relating to desktop computer hardware and software, networking, and personal computer repair or maintenance. Ability to identify, diagnose and distinguish computer hardware and software issues. Evaluate hardware and software for specific department needs, and instruct County personnel in the use of new hardware and software. Knowledge of and ability to make practical application of Department policies, procedures, and legal requirements. Working knowledge of standard office procedures and ability to apply such knowledge to a variety of interrelated processes, tasks, and operations. Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to prepare correspondence and written reports as required. Knowledge of standard record keeping systems and ability to create and maintain records/files. Ability to operate standard office equipment, such as computer, calculator, copier, fax machine and telephone. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities. Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information and records according to state requirements. Ability to comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct. Ability to understand, memorize, retain and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to compile, analyze and evaluate data, make determinations, and present findings in oral or written form. Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment, often amidst frequent distractions and interruptions, and on several tasks at the same time. Ability to apply knowledge of people and locations, plan/layout assigned work projects, and count/make simple arithmetic additions/subtractions. Possession of a valid Indiana driver's license and demonstrated safe driving record., * Associate (Preferred) ## Description Incumbent serves as IT Support Specialist for the LaGrange County Information Technology Department, and reports to the IT Director., Incumbent serves as the initial primary point of contact for IT work order requests. Will evaluate severity of requests, troubleshoot, and provide solutions to work order requests. Incumbent will make initial response to user making a request for service, troubleshoot problems, and develop solutions. Incumbent may seek input from Network Administrator or IT Director if a work order requires escalation. Performs server and desktop installation and support of applications in use on the network. Incumbent will frequently contact software and hardware vendors to establish maximum optimization of installed resources, or to request information on new products or procedures. Incumbent will frequently contact County departments for input and feedback on the performance of currently installed hardware and software applications and utilities. Performs continuous maintenance of existing network devices, including adding, removing, and replacing computer hardware. Assists users with software and mobile data related issues, and informs users of best practices when providing instruction in the use of new devices or software. Monitor and maintain daily and weekly data backups. May provide testimony in legal proceedings/court as requested. Occasionally responds to emergencies on a 24-hour basis. Performs related duties as assigned., Incumbent performs duties which are broad in scope and call for consideration of complex variables in providing ongoing support for County network systems and resolving computer software and hardware problems. Work requires extensive and broad knowledge of technical and non-technical data related to information systems, and, as directed, interprets policies to achieve desired results. Individual judgment and personal decision making, within County or Departmental policy, is needed in selecting and adapting standard practices and procedures to fit varied circumstances and conditions. III. RESPONSIBILITY: Incumbent makes a substantial contribution to the effectiveness of the County's IT Department and computerized systems by maintaining, updating and repairing existing systems and instructing computer users on effective system utilization. Objectives of incumbent's work are known and work is periodically reviewed for compliance with legal requirements. Frequently, decisions are made which are restricted by departmental or County policies. IV. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS: Incumbent maintains frequent contact with co-workers, other County departments, and the public for the purpose of rendering service. Incumbent reports directly to I. T. Director. V.
