Team Caliber is built in Java with the Drools rules engine and integrates with the rest of the platform through APIs and a Kafka event backbone. This is a hands-on backend-leaning full stack role for an engineer who writes clean, well-tested Java, reasons carefully about complex conditional logic, and cares about getting correctness right in a system where rules carry compliance weight., * Rules engine development - Design, build, and maintain business rules in Java and Drools that govern eligibility, suppression, frequency capping, and consent. * Backend services - Build and own the Java/Spring services and REST APIs that expose the rules engine to the rest of the platform. * Event integration - Produce and consume Kafka events to connect the rules engine to upstream signals and downstream decisioning and activation. * Correctness and testing - Write thorough tests for rule logic and services; treat rule correctness as a first-class, auditable concern. * Performance - Keep rule evaluation fast and predictable as the ruleset and traffic grow. * Quality - Run and participate in code reviews, uphold engineering standards, and ship production-ready code in a PHI-handling environment. * Collaboration - Partner with Product and compliance to turn business and regulatory requirements into clear, maintainable rules., Occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.
