Pharmacy Technician certification preferred. Previous pharmacy experience required. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is required. Ability to work effectively with all levels of care team and other colleagues. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills. Ability to interpret and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to use good reasoning and judgement. Proficiency in basic computer skills. Demonstrated good listening, customer service skills and attention to detail. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is primarily sedentary in nature. Long periods of time may be spent at a desk and/or computer terminal. Lifting up to 25-pound boxes may be required. Travel between health centers is required. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is primarily performed in a busy, multi-cultural ambulatory care setting. There is minimal exposure to infectious disease and blood borne pathogens. ## Description Duties include both administrative and clinical responsibilities such as greeting patients, checking patients in/out, scheduling appointments, handling high call volume, assisting with procedures, performing phlebotomy, and other basic medical assistant duties as requested by the Providers, Team Leaders, or Health Center Manager, all while providing upstanding care and respect to our patients., POSITION PURPOSE: The position is responsible for processing prior authorization requests, making medication adherence outreach calls to patients, and dispensing medications to and collecting co-pays from patients at our health centers' medication dispensaries, as well as assist with compliance activities at all sites. Ensures that the contact between pharmacy staff and patients is efficient and a positive interaction and that the patients receive the correct prescriptions and facilitates access to education and pharmacist as needed. Pre-authorization and Medication Adherence Pharmaceutical Duties * Reviews incoming prior authorization requests for validity. * Reviews formulary alternatives for drugs that may require prior authorization before communicating with the prescribing provider. * Completes prior authorization requests with appropriate requested medical information. * Completes outreach calls to patients who are overdue for medication refills. * Responsible for troubleshooting and coaching patients about proper medication adherence. * Facilitates refill requests to care coordination or provider as appropriate. * Maintains complete, timely and accurate documentation of all approvals and denials, and transfers all clinical questions and judgment calls to the pharmacist. * Obtains pertinent medical information to document prior authorization request * Understands, anticipates and responds to complex questions from third-party payers. * Responsible for entering application information, prior authorizations and other relevant data into patient health record. * Generate reports as requested. * Prescreen payment sources to identify problematic payers. * Interacts with appropriate medical and professional staff on a case-by-case basis to obtain appropriate clinical documentation to ensure accurate indications in the patient's medical record before completion of third-party authorizations. * Advises health caregivers and staff about any problematic medications. * Refers appropriate patients to medication assistance programs. * Problem solves with insurance staff. General Dispensary Duties * Greets patients, actively listens to their needs, relays information professionally and accurately. * Verifies patient's prescription and insurance information, collects co-pays, and refills any necessary prescriptions. * Establishes and maintains patient profiles while following confidentiality procedures. * Enters accurate insurance or sliding fee information. * Accurately dispenses medications according to the patients' prescription. * Informs patient of last refill and sets up an appointment with a provider. * Processes prescription through insurance carrier or sliding fee. * Attaches correct label to assigned medication with auxiliary labels. * Runs and reconciles daily receipts and co-pay reports. * Conducts inventory to ensure the correct amount of medications are stocked and organized. * Responsible for securing all areas in the dispensary, ensuring the gate and door are locked. * Provides/coordinates coverage for medications clerks across sites. Administrative Duties * Keeps abreast of industry trends and regulatory changes in the pharmacy industry and incorporates knowledge in the performance of job duties. * Maintains current knowledge of medical modalities as well as new protocols established for specific patient populations. * Identifies problems in process/procedures or services and makes recommendations for improvements. * Participates in department self-audit procedures for on-going evaluation of service. * Attends departmental meetings as needed.
