The Business Intelligence & Data Analytics Specialist is responsible for developing and maintaining ISM's business intelligence environment by ensuring accurate, reliable data, building scalable reporting solutions, and delivering actionable insights that support organizational growth and strategic decision-making. This hands-on role combines business intelligence, analytics, data stewardship, and automation to improve reporting, strengthen operational efficiency, and help leadership make informed, data-driven decisions. At ISM, data connects the full ministry journey: how people discover Scripture and teaching content; engage through apps, websites, radio, streaming, print, events, and partner channels; become known users, customers, supporters, or donors; receive or purchase Bible resources; deepen their engagement; and help advance the mission. This role will help create a trusted view across content, audience, campaign, donor, financial, partner, and distribution data so ISM can steward resources wisely and expand access to Scripture worldwide. ISM values both analytical rigor and humility. This position will help define meaningful indicators of reach, response, engagement, and stewardship without overstating what data can prove about spiritual outcomes. This is a builder-and-steward opportunity at the intersection of analytics, data platforms, marketing technology, and ministry operations. ISM's evolving environment includes Google BigQuery, Segment, Braze, GA4/Firebase, GTM and server-side GTM, Power BI, Looker Studio, Grafana, Stripe, APIs, content and publishing systems, donor and CRM systems, and data from digital media, distribution, and other external sources. Platforms may evolve; strong data fundamentals, sound judgment, and the ability to learn systems quickly matter more than prior experience with every named tool. Within an agreed data roadmap, this role owns the delivery and stewardship of prioritized analytics products-including curated datasets, shared metric definitions, dashboards, analyses, documentation, and quality controls. The Specialist serves and equips the teams responsible for ISM's ministry initiatives, apps and platforms, radio, communications and publishing, donor development, finance, and operations. The role partners with those teams, along with platform owners, developers, source-system owners, vendors, contractors, and other external partners, to translate their goals into reliable measurement and decision support. Work Expectations and Exempt Status This position is classified as full-time, salaried, exempt under applicable federal and state wage and hour laws. As an exempt role, performance is evaluated based on outcomes, stewardship of responsibilities, and the successful execution of objectives, rather than hours worked. While this role generally aligns with ISM's standard business hours, it may require occasional evening work or additional time to meet deadlines, particularly during campaign launches, ministry initiatives, or time-sensitive communications. These expectations are inherent in a professional exempt position. ISM values healthy rhythms and sustainability. Occasional extended hours are balanced with reasonable flexibility in scheduling to support long-term effectiveness and well-being. This role requires the regular exercise of independent judgment, prioritization, discretion, and decision-making authority, particularly in managing workflows, systems, and execution strategies aligned with ministry goals. WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE * Leaders use timely, trusted dashboards and decision tools supported by shared KPI definitions and clear source-to-report lineage. * Priority content, user, customer, donor, campaign, financial, and Bible-distribution data is consistently modeled, documented, monitored, and reconciled in BigQuery. * ISM can measure priority journeys more consistently across content discovery, Scripture engagement, communications, purchasing or giving, and ongoing ministry relationships-while clearly communicating what the data can and cannot prove. * Campaign and channel decisions are supported by a practical, transparent omnichannel attribution framework rather than conflicting platform reports or vanity metrics. * Important data issues are detected early through automated validation and monitoring, then resolved at the source whenever possible. * Ministry teams spend less time assembling or reconciling reports and more time using insight to decide which languages, content, audiences, and channels to serve and scale., * Develop, maintain, and optimize executive dashboards, KPI reporting, curated analytical datasets, semantic models, and business intelligence solutions. * Help establish BigQuery as ISM's governed analytical hub by building, monitoring, and documenting models and workflows that connect audience, content, campaign, donor, financial, partner, commerce, and distribution data through SQL, APIs, and approved BI and automation tools. * Ensure data accuracy through stewardship, validation, reconciliation, deduplication, backfills, freshness and schema monitoring, and automated quality checks; work with source-system owners to resolve root causes rather than repeatedly correcting symptoms. * Develop shared definitions and entity models for content, language, country, endpoint, campaign, anonymous and known users, customers, supporters, donors, partners, products, and transactions, while preserving the boundaries and lineage of operational and analytical systems of record. * Establish and govern measurement standards, including event taxonomies, naming conventions, campaign IDs, UTMs, content and endpoint IDs, conversion definitions, attribution windows, and source-system documentation. * Analyze first-party and omnichannel data across the journey from campaign or referral through visit or install, Scripture interaction, repeat engagement, sign-up, purchase, partnership, or donation. Develop practical attribution and, where feasible, incrementality approaches across paid, owned, partner, digital, broadcast, print, event, QR/NFC, and other offline touchpoints, documenting assumptions and limitations. * Reconcile platform-reported reach and engagement with ISM's source-of-truth outcomes, helping leaders distinguish activity from meaningful results such as retained engagement, completed Bible purchases or distribution, donor acquisition and retention, and cost per outcome. * Support reliable audience activation and lifecycle measurement in Braze or comparable customer-engagement tools by validating profiles, events, attributes, consent and contactability states, segments, suppressions, and conversion data flowing into and out of the analytics environment. * Serve as an analytics partner to the teams driving each area of ISM's mission by translating their goals and operational questions into data requirements, shared measures, dashboards, analysis, and actionable recommendations. * Coordinate with platform owners, developers, source-system owners, vendors, contractors, and distribution partners to verify access and implementations, test source-to-destination flows, and maintain clear ownership and accountability. * Build reporting across ministry reach, content discovery and consumption, engagement and retention cohorts, anonymous-to-known conversion, geographic and language reach, campaign effectiveness, customer activity, donor acquisition and lifetime value, partner enablement, and responsible cost and resource stewardship. * Perform root cause analysis, challenge misleading or incomplete metrics, and translate complex findings into clear recommendations, opportunities, risks, and process improvements for leaders. * Promote governed self-service reporting through data dictionaries, metric definitions, lineage, refresh expectations, dashboard guidance, and training for nontechnical colleagues. * Help operationalize responsible data governance, including role-based access, privacy, consent, retention, data minimization, secure handling of sensitive first-party data, and appropriate use across countries and regions. * Prefer standards-based, native, and maintainable integration patterns; assess reliability, cost, and long-term ownership before introducing new data workflows or vendor dependencies. * Evaluate and responsibly apply automation, AI-assisted analytics, forecasting, anomaly detection, and machine learning where they solve a defined ministry or business problem and can be validated, documented, and reviewed by people. * Help teams confidently interpret and apply accurate, timely, and meaningful business insights while preserving shared definitions and a ministry-wide view of performance. ## Related Videos - [Data Science in Retail](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/586-data-science-in-retail) - [5 steps for running a Kubernetes environment at scale](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/88-5-steps-for-running-a-kubernetes-environment-at-scale) - [Navigating Growth, Scaling Challenges, and Office Expansions with David Singleton, CTO at Stripe](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100362-navigating-growth-scaling-challenges-and-office-expansions-with-david-singleton-cto-at-stripe) - [Empowering Retail Through Applied Machine Learning](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/976-empowering-retail-through-applied-machine-learning) - [All your telemetry data from any source in one place](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/57-all-your-telemetry-data-from-any-source-in-one-place) - [Build Your Own Subscription-based Course Platform](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/321-build-your-own-subscription-based-course-platform) ## Related Articles - [Data Analyst Salary in the UK](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/278-data-analyst-salary-in-the-uk) - [Data Engineer Salary UK](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/253-data-engineer-salary-uk) - [Making Data Warehouses Fast: A Developer’s Story](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/107-making-data-warehouses-fast-a-developer-s-story) - [Top Big Data Technologies That You Need to Know](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/108-top-big-data-technologies-that-you-need-to-know) - [The Most Popular IT Jobs on the Market](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/376-the-most-popular-it-jobs-on-the-market) - [Highest Paying Tech Companies for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/220-highest-paying-tech-companies-for-developers)
