Agent guide: [/agents.md](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/agents.md). --- # Senior Software Engineer - Runtimes and Architecture - **Company:** Arm Limited - **Location:** Cambridge, UK - **Experience:** Expert - **Salary:** £45,000.0 - £80,000.0 - **Contract:** Permanent contract - **Skills:** Java (Programming Language), JavaScript (Programming Language), Artificial Intelligence, ARM Architecture, Assembly Language, C++ (Programming Language), Compilers, Computer Programming, Microarchitecture, Linux, Python (Programming Language), Open Source Technology, Performance Tuning, Working Model 2D, Rust (Programming Language), Free and Open-Source Software, Build Tools - **Published:** August 27, 2026 - **Apply:** https://www.adzuna.co.uk/jobs/details/5856705360 ## About the Role * We are looking for a flexible, inquisitive engineer with an interest in compilers, language runtimes, and CPU architecture. * We need a flexible, problem-solving approach and a commitment to extend the breadth and depth of knowledge. * We require experience working on language runtimes, compilers, or similar technologies. * We require strong programming skills in at least one of C, C++ or Rust. * We require familiarity with computer architecture and microarchitecture concepts such as cache hierarchies and CPU pipelines, preferably relating to AArch64. * Nice to have: proficiency in one or more of Java, JavaScript, Python, Rust or WebAssembly. * Nice to have: familiarity with assembly language and low-level development for AArch64. * Nice to have: familiarity with Linux performance analysis tools and system-level performance tuning. * Nice to have: familiarity with build systems and CI. * Nice to have: experience contributing to open-source projects. ## Description * We study existing, new, and proposed extensions to the Arm architecture to determine their applicability and optimal use by modern language runtimes and compilers. * We work with Arm architects to help shape future architecture features. * We work with runtime engineers to ensure features are used effectively in real-world language implementations. * We analyse architecture features and identify opportunities for their use in language runtimes and compilers. * We work with architects to suggest or improve proposals where appropriate. * We own and are accountable for specific investigations, with guidance where appropriate. * We collaborate with colleagues across Arm to improve the Arm architecture and ensure it is effectively used. * We contribute to open-source software projects and engage with open-source communities. * We contribute to documentation efforts, including internal documentation and external blog posts, to communicate findings. * We help develop tooling and automation to support these activities.
