Comfortable designing multi-account, multi-region topologies. * Production-grade Kubernetes experience - Helm, operators, ingress, autoscaling, RBAC, and cluster lifecycle. You have debugged a real outage at 2 a.m. and lived to write the postmortem. * Strong Terraform background (or equivalent IaC: Pulumi, CloudFormation). You think in modules, state, and drift, and you know when to reach for Ansible vs. Terraform. * CI/CD fluency across pipeline tooling - GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, Jenkins, or similar - and a track record of shipping safer, faster releases. * Scripting and automation in Python, Go, or Bash. You write code that other engineers have to read. * Customer-facing chops - you can sit on a call with a customer's platform team, whiteboard an architecture, and earn their trust as the technical expert in the room. * Strong written communication - runbooks, RFCs, and customer-facing docs are part of the job., * Experience deploying data, ML, or AI workloads. * Service mesh experience (Istio, Linkerd) and zero-trust networking patterns. * Background in compliance-sensitive environments (SOC 2, HIPAA, FedRAMP). * Open-source contributions to infra / platform tooling. * Experience with policy-as-code (OPA / Conftest). ## Description We're looking for a backend engineer who is excited to build and operate scalable systems end-to-end. This role blends backend development with infrastructure and DevOps ownership, giving you full lifecycle responsibility for the services you build-from design to production. You'll work on high-performance distributed systems while also shaping the tooling, infrastructure, and processes that enable reliable and fast delivery. What You'll Do * Own the deployment lifecycle end-to-end - from build artifact to production - across our multi-tenant SaaS and single-tenant customer deployments. * Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, and Jenkins, with progressive delivery patterns (canary, blue/green, feature flags) and automated rollback. * Build and scale Kubernetes platforms - design Helm charts, operators, and cluster topologies that work in our cloud and in customer-managed clusters (EKS, GKE, AKS). * Author and harden Terraform modules for AWS, GCP, and Azure - VPC, IAM, secrets, networking, and observability - with a strong bias toward reusable, versioned modules. * Lead customer implementations as the senior deployment SME: scope environments, run architecture reviews, troubleshoot live incidents during go-live, and hand off to support. * Improve developer experience by reducing time-from-commit-to-production and removing manual gates wherever it is safe to do so. * Define deployment standards - SLOs, change-management, release runbooks, secrets handling, and rollback policy - and evangelize them internally and externally. * Mentor engineers on deployment patterns, infra-as-code hygiene, and incident response ## Related Videos - [Shipping Faster with Less: Render on Cloud Hosting, AI Workloads, and the Future of DevOps](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1894-shipping-faster-with-less-render-on-cloud-hosting-ai-workloads-and-the-future-of-devops) - [Innovating Developer Tools with AI: Insights from GitHub Next](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1268-innovating-developer-tools-with-ai-insights-from-github-next) - [Why segmenting your infrastructure into tiers makes your infrastructure design better](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1960-why-segmenting-your-infrastructure-into-tiers-makes-your-infrastructure-design-better) - [Rate-limiting using eBPF and Istio: How to protect your SaaS customers from themselves](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100220-rate-limiting-using-ebpf-and-istio-how-to-protect-your-saas-customers-from-themselves) - [Terraform for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/3-terraform-for-developers) - [Unleashing Potential Across Teams: The Power of Infrastructure as Code](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/930-unleashing-potential-across-teams-the-power-of-infrastructure-as-code) ## Related Articles - [Highest Paying Tech Companies for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/220-highest-paying-tech-companies-for-developers) - [Dev Digest 120 - Apple and peers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/455-dev-digest-120-apple-and-peers) - [Is Software Engineering Over-Saturated?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/418-is-software-engineering-over-saturated) - [Dev Digest 121 - AI goes offline](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/456-dev-digest-121-ai-goes-offline) - [Fully Remote Software Engineer Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/447-fully-remote-software-engineer-jobs) - [Where To Find Software Engineering Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/396-where-to-find-software-engineering-jobs)
