This is a hands-on technical role at the core of our IT and security operations; you'll build, configure, and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless infrastructure, monitor network performance and availability, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and ensure our network remains resilient, secure, and mission-ready. You'll work closely with the ISSM, cybersecurity teams, and program security teams to support secure network architecture across a complex, multi-domain enterprise. You'll sit within the IT/Infrastructure Division, embedded alongside systems engineers, cybersecurity analysts, and program teams, operating as the subject matter expert when it comes to how our networks are built, how they perform, and how they stay online. Keeping the network running, secure, and scalable is the job, and it's foundational to everything else we do. From day one you'll own network infrastructure configuration, lead efforts to optimize performance and reduce downtime, and help build out the network architecture that supports operations across every segment of our enterprise. This role has full ownership of the network lifecycle: from design to deployment to ongoing maintenance and troubleshooting. Responsibilities Install, configure, and maintain network hardware including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and wireless access points across LAN, WAN, and multi-domain environments. Monitor network performance, availability, and capacity on a continuous basis; triage, diagnose, and resolve connectivity and performance issues; document findings and remediation actions to closure. Design and implement network segmentation, VLANs, and routing architectures that align with system authorization boundaries and program security requirements. Manage network security controls including firewall rule sets, VPN configurations, access control lists, and network-layer inspection (proxy, SSL inspection, mail gateway) in coordination with cybersecurity teams. Support incident response activities involving network outages or connectivity issues; coordinate with cybersecurity, program security, and IT teams as required. Maintain network system health including firmware/software updates, licensing, patching, and log integration with SIEM and network monitoring tools. Collaborate with ISSMs, ISSOs, and cybersecurity engineers to ensure network architecture aligns with classification requirements and data handling SOPs. Plan and execute network upgrades, expansions, and migrations to support growing program and site requirements. Produce recurring metrics, uptime reports, and executive-level summaries of network performance and health; support annual self-inspections and government audit activities. Travel up to 10% CONUS to support program site network implementations, infrastructure reviews, and government customer engagements. ## Related Videos - [How Cisco embraced a DevOps culture within its network engineering team](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/99-how-cisco-embraced-a-devops-culture-within-its-network-engineering-team) - [What makes Cybersecurity different for critical infrastructure?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/571-what-makes-cybersecurity-different-for-critical-infrastructure) - [An Applied Introduction to eBPF with Go](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1075-an-applied-introduction-to-ebpf-with-go) - [Our journey with Spring Boot in a microservice architecture](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/511-our-journey-with-spring-boot-in-a-microservice-architecture) - [Your Infrastructure Is Not a Playground: AI Agents for Infra Done Right](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/2084-your-infrastructure-is-not-a-playground-ai-agents-for-infra-done-right) - [Turning Container security up to 11 with Capabilities](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/718-turning-container-security-up-to-11-with-capabilities) ## Related Articles - [How We Built a Worry-Free System That Runs for 10+ Years – And What We’d Do Again](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/751-how-we-built-a-worry-free-system-that-runs-for-10-years-and-what-we-d-do-again) - [What Are The Top Skills Required For Azure Developers?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/77-what-are-the-top-skills-required-for-azure-developers) - [Best Paying Jobs in Technology](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/256-best-paying-jobs-in-technology) - [Dev Digest 134 - Where pixels sing?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/477-dev-digest-134-where-pixels-sing) - [9 Ways to Make Money Hacking](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/333-9-ways-to-make-money-hacking) - [Highest Paying Tech Companies for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/220-highest-paying-tech-companies-for-developers)
