Waste is high, margins are thin, and most distributor order processes are done over the phone, tracked across broad spreadsheets, and based on intuition rather than strong data. At Choco, we're changing that. We build software used daily by food distributors and their customers to run their business. It automates orders, reduces errors, and helps operations run faster and more reliably. Because it's embedded in daily operations, our SaaS platform has immediate, real-world impact, on efficiency, margins, and how businesses run day to day. As a Senior Data Platform Engineer, you'll build and evolve the data foundation that powers Choco's internal analytics, AI capabilities, and customer-facing data products. As we scale to serve increasingly demanding enterprise customers, our data platform needs to meet higher standards for reliability, freshness, quality, and compliance. You'll own critical parts of our ingestion, transformation, and data platform ecosystem-helping us move toward enterprise-grade SLAs while making it easier for teams across Choco to build trustworthy data products. This isn't a role focused purely on pipelines. You'll own problems end-to-end, from understanding why they matter to designing, shipping, operating, and driving adoption of scalable solutions. What you'll do * Design and build a scalable data platform, from ingestion frameworks to the data products consumers rely on. * Build and operate batch, streaming, and CDC pipelines across heterogeneous data sources. * Deepen data observability and establish SLA/SLO frameworks around reliability, freshness, quality, and downstream impact. * Implement PII masking, retention, and data contracts that make compliance and governance part of the platform by design. * Improve data modeling, warehouse/lakehouse standards, and developer productivity through reusable tooling, automation, and AI-assisted workflows. * Lead technical initiatives from architecture through implementation, rollout, and production operation. * Make pragmatic engineering decisions balancing scalability, reliability, cost, and business priorities. * Help prepare Choco's data platform for the next stage of enterprise-scale growth., * Work on digitalizing core operating systems for food distributors, automating orders, sales and payments in a system that still largely runs on calls and spreadsheets. * Work with an AI product with proven product-market fit, already embedded in distributor workflows and directly affecting order accuracy, speed, and margins. * Join a global team across 6 countries and 40+ nationalities, building a company that has raised $300M+ and reached unicorn status (~$1.2B valuation) with the ambition to define this category end-to-end. * In return, you get real ownership, equity, and the support to do your best work, including competitive compensation, health and wellbeing support, and long-term benefits like a sabbatical (all localized by office). * Collaborate with people who want to own outcomes in a messy, real-world system and make it work at scale. If you want to work on real problems, take ownership, and raise the bar, we should talk. Choco is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage people from all backgrounds to apply. We are committed to ensuring that our technology is available and accessible to everyone. All employment decisions are made without regard to race, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, genetic information, religion, disability, medical condition, pregnancy, marital status, family status, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. ## Related Videos - [From Messy Queries to Scalable Systems - How Data Engineering actually works](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100203-from-messy-queries-to-scalable-systems-how-data-engineering-actually-works) - [Python-Based Data Streaming Pipelines Within Minutes](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1233-python-based-data-streaming-pipelines-within-minutes) - [Cutting LLM Costs Without Cutting Quality: How to Beat Proprietary LLMs with Fine-Tuned Open Source](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100151-cutting-llm-costs-without-cutting-quality-how-to-beat-proprietary-llms-with-fine-tuned-open-source) - [Enjoying SQL data pipelines with dbt](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/823-enjoying-sql-data-pipelines-with-dbt) - [OLTP in the Lakehouse: Redefining Data for AI Workloads](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/2038-oltp-in-the-lakehouse-redefining-data-for-ai-workloads) - [AI Model Management Life Circles: ML Ops For Generative AI Models From Research to Deployment](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1152-ai-model-management-life-circles-ml-ops-for-generative-ai-models-from-research-to-deployment) ## Related Articles - [How We Built a Worry-Free System That Runs for 10+ Years – And What We’d Do Again](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/751-how-we-built-a-worry-free-system-that-runs-for-10-years-and-what-we-d-do-again) - [The Biggest German Tech Companies](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/424-the-biggest-german-tech-companies) - [Data Analyst Salary Germany](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/277-data-analyst-salary-germany) - [Coffee with Developers - Maria Apazoglou - Making AI understandable for all in production](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/475-coffee-with-developers-maria-apazoglou-making-ai-understandable-for-all-in-production) - [Making Data Warehouses Fast: A Developer’s Story](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/107-making-data-warehouses-fast-a-developer-s-story) - [Backend Developer Salary in Germany [2023]](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/196-backend-developer-salary-in-germany-2023)
