Operating from the Taylor Mission Control Center in Louisville, CO, the Spacecraft Systems Flight Controller monitors spacecraft telemetry, executes procedures, commands spacecraft systems, and provides real-time technical decisions to ensure spacecraft health and mission success. They represent their assigned console discipline (EPS, ECLS, PROP, INCO, AVIONICS, or MECH) within the integrated Flight Control Team (FCT), working alongside other console positions under the direction of the Flight Director. The Spacecraft Systems Flight Controller monitors real-time telemetry, analyzes system performance, troubleshoots anomalies, executes nominal and contingency procedures, and coordinates with Engineering Support Room (ESR) personnel to resolve technical issues. During missions, Spacecraft Systems provides 24/7 coverage through rotating 9-hour shifts, maintaining spacecraft subsystem health and performance. This role embodies the seven Foundations of Flight Operations: Discipline, Competence, Confidence, Responsibility, Toughness, Teamwork, and Vigilance and operates under the principle that "spaceflight will never tolerate carelessness, incapacity, and neglect." In this role, you will monitor and command spacecraft subsystems via real-time telemetry during mission operations. You will execute nominal and contingency procedures using Epsilon3 and InControl systems, analyze telemetry trends to identify anomalies, and communicate clearly on Flight Control Team voice loops. Supporting pre-mission planning by reviewing flight plans and developing console products will be a key responsibility, alongside participating in simulations to maintain proficiency and certification. You will coordinate with other console positions on integrated system issues, provide go/no-go recommendations to the Flight Director, and interface with ESR Responsible Engineers for technical troubleshooting. Developing procedures, flight rules, and display pages will be essential, and you will investigate subsystem anomalies and develop corrective actions. ## Related Videos - [From Space to Software: Reliability Lessons 40 Years After Challenger](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100283-from-space-to-software-reliability-lessons-40-years-after-challenger) - [WebAssembly Revolution: Elevating JavaScript's Reach and Performance](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1149-webassembly-revolution-elevating-javascript-s-reach-and-performance) - [For the Cars and the Curious: Android Drift](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/499-for-the-cars-and-the-curious-android-drift) - [Implementing continuous delivery in a data processing pipeline](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/73-implementing-continuous-delivery-in-a-data-processing-pipeline) - [Crew Management System for Airlines: Plan duties for pilots & flight attendants worldwide](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1444-crew-management-system-for-airlines-plan-duties-for-pilots-flight-attendants-worldwide) - [Closing Keynote by Joel Spolsky](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/615-closing-keynote-by-joel-spolsky) ## Related Articles - [How We Built a Worry-Free System That Runs for 10+ Years – And What We’d Do Again](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/751-how-we-built-a-worry-free-system-that-runs-for-10-years-and-what-we-d-do-again) - [What is Software Engineering?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/289-what-is-software-engineering) - [Is Software Engineering Hard?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/448-is-software-engineering-hard) - [Highest Paying Tech Companies for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/220-highest-paying-tech-companies-for-developers) - [DevOps Engineer Salary [2023]](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/203-devops-engineer-salary-2023) - [Software Engineer Career: Things You Should Know](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/143-software-engineer-career-things-you-should-know)
