Work location: This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Austin, TX., Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status). ## Description As a Product Development Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by: * Lead the design and development of next-generation electronic locating & marking system architectures for buried asset applications. * Lead the design and development of next-generation field deployed sensor and automation hardware system architectures. * Design analog, digital and mixed-signal circuits, including sensor signal conditioning and data-acquisition front ends. * Design power electronics and power-distribution circuits, including motor-drive, DC-DC and protection circuitry. * Integrate embedded processors/microcontrollers, connectivity and industrial I/O (e.g., EtherCAT) into board-level designs. * Select and specify electronic components, balance performance, cost, availability, and manufacturability. * Design for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC/EMI), signal integrity and power integrity, and support regulatory compliance (CE, UL, FCC). * Interact with regulatory teams to ensure compliance with applicable standards. * Collaborate closely with firmware, software, mechanical and systems engineers, and with manufacturing, suppliers, contract manufacturers and PCB fabricators, to scale designs into production. * Drive product architecture, feasibility studies, prototyping, and engineering verification activities. * Generate intellectual property positions, including invention submissions, patents and 3M trade secrets. * Communicate tests and other program results to internal and external stakeholders. * Drive the development and commercialization of products to efficiently, reliably and sustainably deliver energy to customers around the world., All US-based 3M full time employees will need to sign an employee agreement as a condition of employment with 3M.
