Experience working in higher education, healthcare, research, or large enterprise environments. Nice to Have Skills & Experience * Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Telecommunications, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. * Any combination of the following certifications: * BICSI Installer, Technician, or RCDD certification preferred. * Fiber optic splicing and testing certifications preferred. * APC, Eaton, Vertiv, or Schneider Electric UPS training/certifications * OSHA construction safety training desirable. * Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) or equivalent * Corning or CommScope certifications ## Description The Technology Infrastructure Specialist is responsible for the design, implementation, operation, maintenance, and strategic planning of the University's physical technology infrastructure that supports enterprise networking, communications, research computing, and enterprise information systems. This position serves as the steward of the University's Layer 1 infrastructure and technology facilities, including fiber optic backbone systems, structured cabling, telecommunications spaces, data center infrastructure, critical power systems, and associated support facilities. The role ensures that the physical infrastructure supporting network, telecommunications, security, research, and enterprise technology services remains reliable, scalable, secure, and aligned with institutional standards and future growth requirements. The Technology Infrastructure Specialist collaborates with Information Technology Services, Facilities Management, architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and campus departments to design, implement, protect, and maintain the infrastructure necessary to support University technology operations. Responsibilities include management of outside plant and inside plant cabling systems, telecommunications rooms, data center facilities, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, environmental support systems, infrastructure documentation, construction project coordination, and lifecycle planning for critical technology assets.
