This role blends deep .NET engineering expertise with hands on leadership in design, architecture, and full stack development. You'll partner closely with business groups, IT leadership, and cross functional teams to build user focused applications that support mission critical transportation services relied on statewide. Our team is rapidly expanding its use of intelligent automation and AI supported development, and this position plays a key role in shaping how AI capabilities are integrated into both new and existing systems. Ideal candidates thrive in collaborative engineering environments, mentor developers, champion best practices, and leverage Azure technologies to deliver secure, reliable, and innovative digital experiences that make a measurable impact across North Carolina. Areas of responsibility include: * Design, develop, test, and troubleshoot modern cloud powered apps and web components using Azure services, DevOps pipelines, and emerging AI assisted development tools - while supporting and leveling up junior developers along the way * Manage and optimize application hosting environments across on premises systems and the Azure cloud, always keeping an eye out for clever opportunities to automate, streamline, and enhance reliability through intelligent tooling * Partner closely with IT leadership, the Communications Office, and business teams to turn ideas and user needs into polished, intuitive digital solutions that support mission critical statewide transportation services * Lead the charge on technical direction and architecture, helping shape modern, user centered experiences that align with organizational standards - and steering the team toward new AI driven approaches that elevate how we build software * Champion modern engineering practices, better tools, and intelligent automation techniques that improve code quality, boost system stability, and make the development team faster, smarter, and more productive About the Division: The Web Systems unit directs all Internet/Intranet based application development, reports, server/system architecture, and web system maintenance for the NCDOT infrastructure. The Web Systems unit employs management, architects, application developers, web designers and subject matter experts to meet the growing business and technological needs of NCDOT departments and external users.
