Rise to challenges, follow through, improve interpersonal experiences with clients, partners, and colleagues. Position yourself to be the most dedicated on your team every day., High School Diploma or GED required. * Experience 5+ years of Athena EMR technical integration and engineering * MSP Experience Experience working with or within Managed Service Providers preferred ## Description The Clinical Systems Integration Engineer is the technical backbone of Dedicated IT's clinical and integration engagements. This role sits embedded with a client's workflow governance team, turning complex EHR migrations and interface work from plan into production. It owns the connection between clinic operations and system architecture, translating clinical workflow needs into integration decisions, and configuring, testing, and stabilizing the interfaces that keep patient data moving accurately between systems. The current assignment is an extended engagement supporting a client's AthenaPractice-to-AthenaOne migration. After that engagement, the role moves into Dedicated IT's broader client support rotation, covering ongoing AthenaOne optimization, interface and integration support, and imaging integration work across the client base. What Success Looks Like Phase 1: AthenaPractice-to-AthenaOne Migration The initial engagement, focused on migrating and stabilizing the client's EHR and integration environment. * Completes onboarding to the client's AthenaPractice-to-AthenaOne migration, including a full inventory of active interfaces across lab, imaging/PACS, HIE, e-prescribing, patient portal, and clearinghouse connections. * Breaks down existing custom integrations into their component parts to determine what carries over to AthenaOne as-is, what needs to be rebuilt, and what can be retired. * Applies AthenaOne workflow best practices and industry standards to guide the client's implementation decisions. * Rebuilds, tests, and stabilizes interfaces within their area of ownership, bringing each up to a standard that can be supported long-term. * Validates migrated data, including patient demographics, scheduling, clinical history, and financial/AR records, against source system records using SQL-based reconciliation. * Supports go-live activities, issue triage, and post-go-live stabilization for the migration. * Documents interface configurations and workflow patterns in a reusable form for Dedicated IT's internal knowledge base. Phase 2: Ongoing Clinical Support Once the migration is stable, the role shifts to a reduced, ongoing support commitment with the original client while expanding into Dedicated IT's broader clinical support work. * Moves into a part-time, ongoing support role for the original client while taking on AthenaOne optimization, interface support, and imaging integration work for additional clients. * Grows into a dedicated Clinical Device & Imaging Integration specialization within the firm, supporting multiple clients' PACS and medical device interface needs. * Contributes engagement learnings, methodology, and tooling to Dedicated IT's delivery playbooks, and trains other consultants as needed. * Provides input to delivery leadership on scoping and effort estimation for future clinical support and integration engagements, based on hands-on delivery experience. Core Competencies These are the skills and behaviors that separate strong performance in this role from average performance. Competency What It Looks Like HL7 & FHIR Interface Engineering Configures, tests, and troubleshoots healthcare interfaces such as lab, HIE, e-prescribing, patient portal, and clearinghouse connections using HL7v2/v3, FHIR, and Mirth Connect or a comparable integration engine. DICOM & Imaging Workflows Applies DICOM standards knowledge to confirm imaging and order-result round-trips function correctly, and validates PACS and other imaging-adjacent interfaces after a migration. SQL Data Validation Writes and interprets SQL queries to validate, reconcile, and report on data moving between source and destination systems. AthenaHealth Platform Fluency Applies working knowledge of AthenaPractice, AthenaOne, athenaClinicals, and athenaCollector to migration and optimization work. Clinical & Back-Office Workflow Knowledge Understands both clinic operations and back-office functions such as billing, scheduling, and registration well enough to translate them into technical decisions. Data Migration Scoping Scopes and plans migration work across patient demographics, scheduling, clinical history, and financial/AR data. Go-Live Support & Issue Triage Supports cutover activities, triages issues in real time, and stabilizes systems through the post-go-live period. Influence Without Formal Authority Builds trust quickly with client stakeholders and operates effectively inside a client's existing governance structure without direct positional authority over their team. Technical-to-Clinical Translation Converts technical constraints and tradeoffs into terms a client's governance team can act on. Cross-Audience Communication Adjusts tone and depth for technical, clinical, and executive audiences within the same engagement. Documentation Discipline Documents interface configurations, workflow patterns, and engagement learnings in a form others can reuse. Adaptability Across Engagements Adjusts to different client cultures, systems, and governance structures without a drop in delivery quality. Vendor & Device Coordination Coordinates with vendors and connected medical device systems to keep interfaces reliable. Engagement Estimation Input Gives delivery leadership informed input on scoping and effort estimation for future client engagements. Practice Development Contribution Contributes to methodology refinement, tooling, or training of other consultants between engagements. Prior A2A Migration Experience Brings direct experience with an AthenaPractice-to-AthenaOne migration or a comparable EHR transition. ## Related Videos - [ZEISS & Microsoft - Building the Next Generation Medical Ecosystem in the Cloud](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/424-zeiss-microsoft-building-the-next-generation-medical-ecosystem-in-the-cloud) - [Swapping a Data Warehouse at Runtime: Zero-Downtime Migration Without Changing a Single Client](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100311-swapping-a-data-warehouse-at-runtime-zero-downtime-migration-without-changing-a-single-client) - [Fault Tolerance and Consistency at Scale: Harnessing the Power of Distributed SQL Databases](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1146-fault-tolerance-and-consistency-at-scale-harnessing-the-power-of-distributed-sql-databases) - [From Bedside Beeps to Interoperable Bytes – Getting your medical devices ready to talk the IEEE 11073 language](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/771-from-bedside-beeps-to-interoperable-bytes-getting-your-medical-devices-ready-to-talk-the-ieee-11073-language) - [Developer Tools for Microsoft Azure](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/450-developer-tools-for-microsoft-azure) - [Fault Tolerance and Consistency at Scale: Harnessing the Power of Distributed SQL Databases](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1520-fault-tolerance-and-consistency-at-scale-harnessing-the-power-of-distributed-sql-databases) ## Related Articles - [How We Built a Worry-Free System That Runs for 10+ Years – And What We’d Do Again](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/751-how-we-built-a-worry-free-system-that-runs-for-10-years-and-what-we-d-do-again) - [Everything a Developer Needs to Know About MCP with Neo4j](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/604-everything-a-developer-needs-to-know-about-mcp-with-neo4j) - [Fully Remote Software Engineer Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/447-fully-remote-software-engineer-jobs) - [Dev Digest 162: AI careers, MCP, AWS best practices & floppy sweaters](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/571-dev-digest-162-ai-careers-mcp-aws-best-practices-floppy-sweaters) - [What’s the Difference between a Junior, Mid, and Senior Developer?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/238-what-s-the-difference-between-a-junior-mid-and-senior-developer) - [Data Engineer Salary UK](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/253-data-engineer-salary-uk)
