In-depth knowledge of design engineering, geometric tolerances, packaging design, and tool preparation required. Experience with Kyocera's proprietary methodologies and products preferred. Advanced understanding of customer and suppliers' processing. Must possess excellent communication skills in both written and verbal to interface with the outside vendors, to generate and deliver presentations to both internal and external customers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception. ## Description A Design Engineer performs complex activities in the design, layout, testing and evaluation of technical products. Acts as a technical liaison providing troubleshooting and technical support for projects related to the development of new products and designs. As an experienced professional, this person provides updates with a full understanding of area of specialization; resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways and works through problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors., 1. Performs complex product development activities including drawing, board layout, and interpretation and implementation of customer specifications and documentation requirements. 2. Provides existing product line support in design activities and/or modification of hardware in production. 3. Conducts engineering studies and may assign work to technical drafting staff. 4. Communicates with production and sales engineers concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods. Develops new designs that are cost effective and meet timeline requirements. 5. Provides leadership in implementing changes to eliminate packaging-related failures. 6. Provides regular status reports on packaging development projects and process improvement activities. 7. Evaluates, recommends, and implements process improvements for packaging methods with lean manufacturing principles. 8. Generates own specific goals and prioritize workload so those actions are in alignment with department goals. 9. Responsible for providing guidance and training to lower-level engineers and designers and checking/approving their work.
