Our lanes and standards exist for a reason; we need someone who collaborates and escalates properly rather than quietly "just fixing everything" outside the process. * Bonus: exposure to AI/automation tooling in an SMB or MSP context. * Certifications a plus: Microsoft (M365 / Azure), CompTIA Network+ or Security+, or Cisco CCNA. ## Description We're looking for a hands-on Systems Engineer to lead project delivery and own the tougher technical escalations across our clients' server, Microsoft 365, network, and cloud environments. If you enjoy real engineering work - server builds and migrations, M365/Entra projects, and emerging AI implementation - inside a proactive, well-documented shop that respects your time, this role offers real impact and room to grow., This is a hands-on engineering role focused on project delivery. You'll be the person who executes the meaty technical work - with support, direction, and strong documentation behind you - and steps up on the tougher problems our Service Desk passes up. Day to day, you'll work on server installs and migrations, Microsoft 365 / Entra ID projects, network and infrastructure builds, and emerging AI implementation work for our clients. You'll take escalations above our Service Desk for issues that are genuinely beyond frontline, and you'll contribute to how we design and standardize solutions. This isn't a helpdesk role and it isn't a ticket-mill - our Service Desk owns the day-to-day queue. This is project and escalation work, with room to grow. What you'll do * Project engineering - execute server, M365/Entra, networking, and infrastructure projects, with direction and support on the larger ones. * AI implementation - help clients adopt practical AI tooling (Copilot/M365 AI, automations, and similar) as this becomes a growing part of our work. * Technical escalations - pick up complex, cross-system issues that are beyond frontline (our Service Desk handles routine and Level 2 work). * Troubleshooting & fixes - dig into the harder problems, find the real cause, and help make sure they don't come back. * Solution design (growing) - contribute to technical designs and standards alongside our Technical Alignment Manager, and grow into fuller ownership over time. Reactive work Our Service Desk owns the day-to-day ticket queue, and that's what protects your time for project work. Because we run lean, you'll provide a defined, capped block of escalation/overflow coverage each week (and a little more when the team is short-handed or on PTO). It's a safety valve, not your day job. Where this can go This role has real runway. You'll have mentorship from an experienced team (and access to a senior consulting resource on complex projects), so you can level up fast. As you prove out, there's a clear path toward senior engineering and fuller ownership of our design function. We'll hire you for solid project skills and grow you from there. ## Related Videos - [How Cisco embraced a DevOps culture within its network engineering team](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/99-how-cisco-embraced-a-devops-culture-within-its-network-engineering-team) - [Systems Thinking for Performance: How to Diagnose and Fix Slow Systems without Guessing](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/2103-systems-thinking-for-performance-how-to-diagnose-and-fix-slow-systems-without-guessing) - [WebAssembly: The Next Frontier of Cloud Computing](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/972-webassembly-the-next-frontier-of-cloud-computing) - [Generating code with Angular schematics](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/129-generating-code-with-angular-schematics) - [Computer Vision from the Edge to the Cloud done easy](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/263-computer-vision-from-the-edge-to-the-cloud-done-easy) - [Azure-Well Architected Framework - designing mission critical workloads in practice](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1529-azure-well-architected-framework-designing-mission-critical-workloads-in-practice) ## Related Articles - [What Are The Top Skills Required For Azure Developers?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/77-what-are-the-top-skills-required-for-azure-developers) - [Fully Remote Software Engineer Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/447-fully-remote-software-engineer-jobs) - [How We Built a Worry-Free System That Runs for 10+ Years – And What We’d Do Again](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/751-how-we-built-a-worry-free-system-that-runs-for-10-years-and-what-we-d-do-again) - [Is Software Engineering Over-Saturated?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/418-is-software-engineering-over-saturated) - [Why Upskilling And Reskilling is Important For Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/428-why-upskilling-and-reskilling-is-important-for-developers) - [6 Emerging Technologies We’ll Learn About in 2025](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/381-6-emerging-technologies-we-ll-learn-about-in-2025)
