Projects will be targeted to high profile new products, technology, and launches. The position requires presentation of status and findings allowing diverse management exposure. * The PD Engineer is responsible for managing product release CAD and BOM structures, including assembly positioning and mass attribute analysis. This role also includes facilitating supplier data integration and developing CAD studies to support and drive design improvements. * The PD Engineer is expected to understand and effectively utilize product check-in/check-out processes, version control, data release, and change management within Ford's PLM ecosystem. * The PD Engineer will perform feasibility analyses using CAD tools, including draft angle analysis, undercut detection, minimum bend radius validation for sheet metal, and clearance checks to support manufacturing and machining requirements. What you'll do... High Time in Service Reliability and High Repair Cost Quality Improvement Projects * Lead/support High Time in Service Quality Projects using Design for Six Sigma / 8D processes on aggressive timelines to support suspension warranty spend and failure rate reduction targets. * Responsibilities include evaluation of high warranty spend/failure rate subsystems and engine/vehicle applications with a focus on issues that contribute to > 12 MIS warranty and/or are design/physics related versus supplier quality/manufacturing defect related. * Projects will be expected to rapidly work through the Define, Characterize, Optimize and Verify phases of the DFSS process including root cause identification and verification, implementation of ICA/PCA's, read across and prevent recurrence. * Strong focus on warranty data/trend analysis, part return analysis and physical understanding of suspension systems and subsystems as key tools to identification root cause and interim and permanent corrective actions. * Help develop relationships with dealerships and fleets as key sources of information to quickly identify and resolve HTIS quality issues. * Ability to design, execute or coordinate analytical and physical testing from component bench level to full vehicle testing to identify root cause, replicate quality issues and validate fixes. * Identify and document lessons learned for knowledge preservation. Lower Cost per Repair Projects * Run data analytics to understand repair cost variation that can be optimized for a lower cost repair. * Review multiple service procedures and trial more efficient procedures that can be implemented in the field. * Work with Ford Customer Service Department to implement proper tools to assist in the lower cost repair option. * Identify and document lessons learned for knowledge preservation. Cost per Unit Warranty Reduction Opportunities * Engineering Project leads to all suspension systems and all vehicle lines that are negatively contributing to our yearly objectives. * Assess all warranty tools against each cost per unit concern within the assigned propulsion group and identify opportunities to move forward with lower cost repair options. * Kick off the appropriate teams to lead work plan for identified opportunities. * Identify and document lessons learned for knowledge preservation. Project leader * expected to present frequently to senior management project status and results, interface regularly with quality, powerpack and core engineers and TS's and maintain required project documentation including 1-pagers, 6-panels, 8D reports, management summary documents, etc. * Lead/attend team meetings. ## Related Videos - [Building a hypercar from scratch](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/607-building-a-hypercar-from-scratch) - [APIs and Architecture for scaling omnichannel payments](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/90-apis-and-architecture-for-scaling-omnichannel-payments) - [PySpark - Combining Machine Learning & Big Data](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/44-pyspark-combining-machine-learning-big-data) - [10M Data Records Lost, Underwater Computing, and Psychedelic Fish - Matthias Geniar](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1908-10m-data-records-lost-underwater-computing-and-psychedelic-fish-matthias-geniar) - [Data Analytics with Microsoft Fabric: End-to-End Use Case with Data Agents](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1547-data-analytics-with-microsoft-fabric-end-to-end-use-case-with-data-agents) - [OLTP in the Lakehouse: Redefining Data for AI Workloads](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/2038-oltp-in-the-lakehouse-redefining-data-for-ai-workloads) ## Related Articles - [How software is steering vehicle technology](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/515-how-software-is-steering-vehicle-technology) - [Top Characteristics of a Software Engineer](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/166-top-characteristics-of-a-software-engineer) - [What is Software Engineering?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/289-what-is-software-engineering) - [Résumé-Driven Development: How IT trends affect the job market for software developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/59-resume-driven-development-how-it-trends-affect-the-job-market-for-software-developers) - [A Guide to Green Tech and Green IT Careers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/374-a-guide-to-green-tech-and-green-it-careers) - [How to Write a CV and Interview if You Don't Fully Qualify For The Job](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/183-how-to-write-a-cv-and-interview-if-you-don-t-fully-qualify-for-the-job)
