This is an entry-level technical role: you'll bring foundational IT skills and some hands-on experience with cabling or networking, and we'll build on that with training. Most of the time you'll be working from home on remote support and tickets, but when we have a project in the region, you're the person who goes on-site, and you'll often be handling the physical install on your own with remote guidance and support from the team available whenever you need it. This is a great fit for someone early in their IT career who has some hands-on experience with cabling, networking hardware, or general tech support, and who is comfortable traveling to a client site and working through a physical install independently, even without another technician there in person. Remote guidance from more senior techs is always available; you just need to be comfortable being the only person on-site. What You'll Do * Serve as DPC's on-site technician for the Panama City/Panhandle region, traveling to client sites whenever a project is scheduled in the area * Run and terminate structured cabling (Cat5e/6, fiber, coax) through walls, ceilings, attics, and crawlspaces * Mount, rack, and physically install hardware, including servers, switches, access points, cameras, displays, and related equipment * Set up and configure systems, software, and hardware on-site according to project scope, often working on your own with remote support from the team as needed * Test and verify installed systems to confirm functionality, integration, and performance before sign-off * Troubleshoot basic deployment issues in the field, escalating to more senior team members when needed * Maintain clear documentation, including ticket notes, system configurations, and troubleshooting guides * Keep clients and the DPC team informed on progress, delays, or scope changes during the install * Work from home between projects, handling tickets, documentation, and remote support while staying available for upcoming on-site work * Track time, expenses, and work activities in ConnectWise; complete ConnectWise University training, Strong performers with strong client feedback may progress into a Field Technician II or Project Specialist role. Success in This Role Looks Like * Project client satisfaction score of 98% or higher * 90% or more of projects delivered at or under budget * A defect rate averaging no more than 1 per 10 projects ## Related Videos - [MCP Mashups: How AI Agents are Reviving the Programmable Web](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1392-mcp-mashups-how-ai-agents-are-reviving-the-programmable-web) - [This Is Not Your Father's .NET](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/967-this-is-not-your-father-s-net) - [Creating games to make the web fun again](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1237-creating-games-to-make-the-web-fun-again) - [Panel: New Work](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/816-panel-new-work) - [Fault Tolerance and Consistency at Scale: Harnessing the Power of Distributed SQL Databases](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1146-fault-tolerance-and-consistency-at-scale-harnessing-the-power-of-distributed-sql-databases) - [The day the chatbot asked for sudo](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100038-the-day-the-chatbot-asked-for-sudo) ## Related Articles - [Remote Work: Best Practices for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/315-remote-work-best-practices-for-developers) - [How to land a developer job in Amsterdam](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/36-how-to-land-a-developer-job-in-amsterdam) - [Fully Remote Software Engineer Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/447-fully-remote-software-engineer-jobs) - [The Best Job Search Websites of 2025](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/368-the-best-job-search-websites-of-2025) - [Mastering Remote Work: Tips for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/558-mastering-remote-work-tips-for-developers) - [Best Job Boards for Remote Work for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/290-best-job-boards-for-remote-work-for-developers)
