Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is not a general desktop IT technician or help-desk administrator. We are specifically seeking a senior infrastructure professional who has hands-on experience with: Windows Server + Cadence/FlexNet Licensing + Redundant Server Architecture + Networking + Storage ## Description We are seeking an experienced Broadcom Cluster / Licensing Technician with a strong background in Windows Server infrastructure, Cadence/FlexNet licensing, redundant server environments, networking, and high-speed storage connectivity. The technician will be responsible for evaluating an existing multi-server environment and determining the appropriate approach for optimization, configuration, potential rebuilding, and ongoing maintenance. The current environment consists of interconnected Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary servers supporting licensing and application dependencies. Because of the complexity of the environment, the engagement must begin with a comprehensive configuration and dependency assessment before any production server is modified, rebuilt, or decommissioned. The initial project is expected to require approximately one week; however, the actual duration will be determined by the technician after reviewing the existing configuration and identifying the level of optimization or reconfiguration required. Following the initial engagement, there may be an opportunity for ongoing monthly maintenance and support. Primary Responsibilities 1. Environment Assessment & Discovery * Perform a comprehensive assessment of the existing server and licensing environment before making production changes. * Review the Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary server architecture. * Determine how redundancy and failover are currently implemented. * Verify whether redundancy is based on: * Windows Failover Clustering * Application-level redundancy * FlexNet three-server redundancy * A combination of technologies * Identify application, licensing, networking, storage, and service dependencies. * Document the current environment and identify areas requiring optimization, remediation, or redesign. * Establish a controlled implementation and rollback strategy before making production changes. 2. Windows Server Administration The technician must have strong hands-on experience administering Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2022, including: * Server installation and configuration * Windows roles and features * Windows services * Server patching and updates * Event Viewer analysis * System recovery * Local and domain users and groups * Remote Desktop configuration and troubleshooting * Windows Firewall configuration * Service-level TCP/UDP port configuration * PowerShell administration and troubleshooting * System and application dependency analysis The technician must be capable of rebuilding or reconfiguring Windows Server environments while minimizing disruption to production applications and licensing services. 3. Server Architecture & Redundancy * Assess the existing Primary / Secondary / Tertiary server configuration. * Determine how redundancy and failover currently operate. * Verify whether Windows Failover Clustering is being used. * Evaluate application-level redundancy where applicable. * Assess dependencies between servers, applications, services, licensing, storage, and network resources. * Develop an appropriate approach for rebuilding or replacing servers while preserving required application functionality. * Validate redundancy and failover behavior following configuration changes. * Ensure production dependencies remain available throughout the migration or optimization process. 4. Cadence / FlexNet Licensing Strong hands-on experience with Cadence licensing and FlexNet/FLEXlm License Manager is required. Responsibilities include: * Configure and administer FlexNet/FLEXlm License Manager. * Work with LMTOOLS for license service administration and troubleshooting. * Configure redundant three-server licensing environments. * Understand and manage FlexNet license file components, including: * SERVER entries * VENDOR/DAEMON entries * Hostnames * Host IDs * MAC addresses * TCP ports * Configure, start, stop, and validate licensing services. * Troubleshoot client connectivity to license servers. * Verify license checkout functionality. * Validate licensing failover between redundant servers. * Understand quorum requirements and failover behavior within a three-server FlexNet configuration. * Identify and resolve licensing service or connectivity issues. * Ensure licensing configuration is properly documented and backed up., The technician should be comfortable using tools including: * ping * tracert * Test-NetConnection * netstat * nslookup * PowerShell networking commands The technician will be expected to identify and document the communication requirements between the three servers and client workstations. 6. 10Gb Fiber & Storage Networking Experience with 10Gb fiber connectivity and server/storage networking is required. Responsibilities may include: * Configure and troubleshoot 10Gb fiber connections between servers, switches, and shared storage. * Identify and document existing 10Gb interfaces. * Review SFP/SFP+ transceivers and fiber types. * Troubleshoot physical-layer connectivity issues. * Validate link negotiation. * Review IP addressing and VLAN configuration. * Review link aggregation and LACP configurations where applicable. * Validate switch-port configuration. * Test connectivity and throughput. * Validate redundancy and failover across high-speed server/storage links. Experience with SAN and shared-storage architectures is strongly preferred. Fibre Channel Environments If the existing environment utilizes true Fibre Channel (FC) rather than 10Gb Ethernet, the technician must have experience with: * Fibre Channel switches * Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) * World Wide Names (WWNs) * SAN zoning * LUN presentation and mapping * Multipathing * SAN troubleshooting The technician must be capable of recreating or validating the existing storage and network configuration without disrupting production data or licensing/application dependencies. 7. Backup & Disaster Recovery Before making significant production changes, the technician will be responsible for establishing an appropriate backup and recovery strategy. Responsibilities include: * Configure or validate Windows Server Backup or equivalent imaging/backup solutions. * Perform or validate system-state and bare-metal recovery capabilities. * Back up critical license files. * Back up application configuration files. * Back up Windows services and related configuration. * Preserve required registry and application settings. * Document server dependencies. * Develop and document a rollback procedure. * Validate the ability to restore the environment before making irreversible changes. 8. Server Migration & Rebuild If the assessment determines that servers should be rebuilt or replaced, the technician will: * Inventory the existing environment before making changes. * Document: * Server names * IP addresses * DNS configuration * Installed applications * Windows services * Service accounts * Firewall rules * Scheduled tasks * Network shares * Permissions * License-manager configuration * Application dependencies * Storage connections * Network interfaces * Build and validate replacement servers in a controlled environment. * Recreate required configurations and services. * Validate application and licensing dependencies. * Perform controlled migration activities. * Minimize production downtime. * Validate functionality following migration. * Maintain a documented rollback procedure throughout implementation. 9. Documentation The technician will be expected to produce comprehensive technical documentation, including: * Current-state server inventory * Server configuration documentation * Network configuration * Licensing architecture * FlexNet configuration * Application dependencies * Service dependencies * Firewall and port requirements * Storage connectivity * 10Gb network configuration * Redundancy and failover architecture * Updated server/network diagram * Backup and recovery procedures * Rollback procedures * Maintenance procedures * Recommended future improvements All documentation should be clear enough for another qualified technician or administrator to understand and maintain the environment. 10. Optimization & Maintenance Following the initial assessment and any required configuration work, the technician may provide ongoing monthly maintenance.
