You will be a key contributor to the design, development, and maintenance of our core API services, application logic, and data models, as well as the Vue single-page applications our customers use every day - ensuring a secure, reliable, and performant experience end to end. You will leverage your deep understanding of Python and frameworks like Django and FastAPI to modernize our application and drive technical excellence within the team. We are an AI-first engineering organization. We expect our engineers to work fluently with AI coding assistants and agentic development tools as a normal part of the daily workflow - using them to plan, generate, review, and test code - and to apply the same engineering judgment to AI output that they would to their own. You will also help us build AI-powered capabilities into the product itself. This is an opportunity to make a direct impact on the success of thousands of fitness businesses worldwide, working closely with product teams and even directly with customers to understand and address their needs., * Design, develop, and maintain core API services and backend systems using Python, Django, and FastAPI. * Contribute to the modernization of our application, transitioning from a legacy Django MVC architecture to an APIfirst approach. * Optimize application performance and scalability to handle increasing user demand and data volume. * Design and implement data models and database schemas to support new features and functionalities. * Build and extend customer-facing features in our Vue single-page applications, and partner with frontend engineers to define API contracts that make integration seamless. * Write clean, well-documented, and testable code, participating actively in code reviews to ensure high-quality standards. * Use AI coding assistants and agentic development tools as a core part of your workflow - scoping tasks, generating and refactoring code, writing tests, and reviewing output critically before it ships. * Help design and ship AI-powered product capabilities, from evaluating models and APIs to building the data and retrieval plumbing behind them. * Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, working closely with the operations team to ensure platform stability. * Participate in on-call rotation as needed to ensure platform reliability and availability (future requirement). * Actively engage with product managers and customers to understand their needs and translate them into technical solutions. * Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team. ## Related Videos - [Build and Deploy a Fullstack App with Open Source Tooling](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/775-build-and-deploy-a-fullstack-app-with-open-source-tooling) - [Celery on AWS ECS - the art of background tasks & continuous deployment](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/561-celery-on-aws-ecs-the-art-of-background-tasks-continuous-deployment) - [Docker Compose: Rediscovered](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1978-docker-compose-rediscovered) - [MySQL Protocol Features You Should Be Aware Of](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100267-mysql-protocol-features-you-should-be-aware-of) - [Walking into the era of Supply Chain Risks](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/376-walking-into-the-era-of-supply-chain-risks) - [Docker build without Docker](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100114-docker-build-without-docker) ## Related Articles - [Dev Digest 120 - Apple and peers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/455-dev-digest-120-apple-and-peers) - [Dev Digest 121 - AI goes offline](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/456-dev-digest-121-ai-goes-offline) - [Fully Remote Software Engineer Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/447-fully-remote-software-engineer-jobs) - [The 7 Most Popular Backend Frameworks for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/403-the-7-most-popular-backend-frameworks-for-developers) - [Highest Paying Tech Companies for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/220-highest-paying-tech-companies-for-developers) - [Dev Digest 137 - AI'm not sure about this](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/485-dev-digest-137-ai-m-not-sure-about-this)
