Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in a related field. Ten (10) years of progressive technology experience, including at least five (5) years of leadership responsibility. Possession of an active U.S. TS/SCI security clearance. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Ability to balance deep technical expertise with effective leadership and strategic thinking. * Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communications skills. * Strong technical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. * Maintains current knowledge of emerging technology, cybersecurity threats and practices, and developments in artificial intelligence., * Primarily sedentary role with occasional standing or walking; may occasionally lift up to 20 pounds. This position will work primarily on campus, including San Pedro 1, North Paseo, and Port of San Antonio locations. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility. This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire. ## Description The Director of Technology provides strong thought leadership and strategic, hands-on direction for CyManII's infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud services, endpoints, IT projects, and emerging technologies. The Director anticipates evolving technology needs, shapes organizational strategy, and translates complex technical, security, and partner requirements into effective, forward-looking solutions. The Director of Technology champions flexible, collaborative, and iterative work practices through secure, reliable, and adaptable technology services. As CyManII's principal technology advisor and practitioner, the Director establishes a clear technical vision supporting CyManII initiatives while leading architecture, implementation, systems and cloud administration, endpoint management, troubleshooting, security operations, and incident response. The Director provides strategic and technical leadership to staff, vendors, and research teams and helps shape the technical direction of initiatives involving the U.S. Department of Energy, national laboratories, academic institutions, manufacturers, industry partners, and other state and federal agencies. Success requires substantial hands-on technical expertise across a broad range of IT disciplines, combined with the ability to influence stakeholders, challenge conventional approaches, identify emerging opportunities and risks, and build confidence in CyManII's technical capabilities and innovations. Core Responsibilities 1. Develops and executes technology strategies, policies, standards, roadmaps, budgets, and priorities that support CyManII objectives, including evaluating and deploying new technologies; balance strategic leadership with hands-on technical execution, end-user support, and operations; reports weekly to Leadership on status, plans, and complex issues. 2. Architects, implements, administers, secures, and troubleshoots computer networks, servers, endpoints, identity platforms, cloud services, and collaboration systems while maintaining direct hands-on involvement in network engineering, systems administration, cybersecurity, cloud engineering, endpoint management, and end-user support. 3. Administers and troubleshoots Linux and Windows environments (configuration, virtualization, IAM, patching, automation, monitoring, backup/recovery) and designs, configures, secures, and supports enterprise networks (routing, switching, segmentation, VPNs, wireless systems; Cisco and multi-vendor firewalls). 4. Manages SaaS/PaaS/IaaS solutions with emphasis on Microsoft Azure and Microsoft identity, endpoint, security, productivity, and collaboration tools; evaluates cloud, software, AI, endpoint, and third-party services for security, privacy, data-governance, compliance, contractual, and supply-chain risks; maintains current knowledge of emerging AI developments for secure, responsible adoption. 5. Manages endpoints through full lifecycle (provisioning, software deployment, security, inventory, maintenance, replacement, disposal, end-user support) and supports onboarding/offboarding (device preparation, account provisioning, access management, equipment recovery, data protection). 6. Ensures system availability, performance, resilience, recoverability, and security via monitoring, configuration management, backups, disaster recovery, and lifecycle planning; assess architectures, diagnoses complex issues, and performs implementation, troubleshooting, remediation, and incident response. 7. Leads cybersecurity accountability (operational risk management, compliance, practices, stakeholder coordination) and manages IT/physical security technologies (architecture, risk assessments, monitoring, vulnerability management, incident response, electronic access controls, security cameras, audits, reports) 8. Aligns security practices TXRamp and Texas DIR security standards; performs risk assessments, conducts internal audits of systems and controls, documents and remediates findings, and leads incident response from investigation through recovery and post-incident review. 9. Supports software development, containerized workloads, secure data exchange, and process automation using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or comparable tools; support DevSecOps practices including CI/CD, container security, automated testing, or infrastructure as code; support Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) practices including inference, model management, and fine-tuning. 10. Plans and manages IT projects (scope, schedules, budgets, resources, risks, changes, dependencies, implementation, transition to operations) and provides technical direction coordinating staff, stakeholders, vendors, consultants, teams, and partners. 11. Manages technology contracts, procurement, licensing, vendor performance, asset records, and capacity planning. 12. Collaborates closely with UT San Antonio's University Technology Solutions and the Office of Information Security to ensure an effective, compliant IT infrastructure; represents CyManII in technical working groups, partner initiatives, architecture discussions, security reviews, and compliance activities. 13. Communicates complex technical and cybersecurity issues clearly through verbal communication, documentation, presentations, customer service, and stakeholder engagement with technical and nontechnical audiences. 14. Frequent travel by personal vehicle between campus locations, with occasional travel to conferences, meetings, partner sites, and other work-related events. 15. Provides technical leadership by representing the Institute at relevant cybersecurity and technology conferences, leading training events and participates in technical panels and industry discussions as appropriate. 16.
