In this role, you will be responsible for the secure intake, documentation, and storage of property and evidence-including firearms, electronics, digital media, and more-while maintaining strict adherence to statutes and internal policies., ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level. + Travel to temporary storage locations to collect evidence and property. Inspect items for accurate packaging and entry into the computer database. Place refused items into temporary storage for Trooper correction. Utilize federal, state, and local databases to ensure legal ownership and/or possession of stolen property. Intake, download, upload, and storage of digital evidence to various drives for storage and/or use by records section for discovery. Keep storage rooms, Connex boxes, and impound lots organized and adequate for the storage of evidence. At times, work with various trades i.e., locksmith, HVAC, IT, construction, for improvements or upgrades, as well as assembling shelving and locker units. + Process requests from Troopers and/or attorneys to have evidence tested by a certified laboratory. Ensuring completion of analysis by specified trial dates and monitoring/updating for additional test requirements. Download lab reports and disseminate to the appropriate personnel. Ensure all applicable documents, including lab results, are linked to the case file in the evidence system. Relay items of evidence for lab submission, coordinate for pickup and return and/or storage of completed lab submission items. Order supply of blood/urine kits from State Crime Lab. Log in new blood kits, annotating and monitoring expiration dates, supplying kits per request to other ES. + Ensure the timely disposition of evidence and property under the supervision of the Evidence Supervisor. That may include working with the public, other law enforcement agencies, attorneys, circuit and district courts. Working with the Trooper, attorneys, the Attorney General, and district courts in order to obtain approval of the disposition of evidence. Creating, submitting, tracking, and storing all approval forms, petitions, and destruction certifications. Incinerator operation will be conducted on a continuous basis. It will include verification that the petition has been approved at all levels, inventory of the items submitted for destruction, scheduling destruction, coordinating for a witness to be present, and ensuring all documents are signed upon completion. Operating the incinerator to include pre-cleaning, set up, proper loading, monitoring, shutdown, and maintenance. Return to Owner (RTO) of property to include verifying ownership, attaching documentation to the d isposal. + ASSISTING TROOPERS: Provide support to the Troopers in resolving issues regarding the entry of evidence, packaging, various software and peripheral issues. Assist Troopers with evidence collection and scene processing as needed. Attend special deployments as directed in or out of their respective area, to assist with evidence collection, packaging, and transport. Be available during annual K9 deployments as well as conduct quarterly K9 kit weights and annual inventories. Relay supplies WYDOT, patrol, and POE offices. + DATABASE AND STATS: Ensure data accuracy in the evidence database and provide statistical data when requested. Ensure data accuracy during testing of evidence database updates. Submit weekly National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) statistical evidence entries. + AUDITS AND INVENTORIES: Participate in bi-annual audits for each evidence storage location completed by the Evidence Supervisor and annual external audit conducted by the Professional Standards Section. Complete annual inventory of evidence in respective areas. Ensure any inventory discrepancies or audit findings are corrected before the next audit. + TRAINING: Attend annual training to stay current on trends, policies, and standards. Become International Association of Property and Evidence (IAPE) certified within the first year of employment with continued renewal of membership annually. + OCCASIONAL OTHER: May assist District Captains with duties approved by the Evidence Supervisor. Work with and schedule appointments with mechanics for evidence vehicle maintenance as well as cleanliness of the vehicle inside and out.
