B.S. in mechanical, electrical or architectural engineering degree 2. Minimum 8 years of professional experience in data center design, construction and operations (RCDD is preferred) 3. Travel to data center sites (25% to 50%) Technical Deep Domain Experience 1. Structured Cabling & Networking Distribution: Basics of all layers plus cabling, optics and supporting infrastructure 2. Understanding of mission critical structured cabling distribution that coincides with network topologies 3. Understanding of various components within structured cabling systems and design 4. Knowledge of industry standards, BICSI and RCDD standards Entry Level Domain Experience 1. Cooling: Theory, methods and efficiency (PUE) 2. Understanding and working knowledge of mechanical air-side and water-side systems for mission critical environments and various data center HVAC topologies 3. Air-side design and distribution 4. Wet-side design and distribution (chilled and condenser water systems) 5. CRAC and CRAH design and distribution 6. Understanding of mechanical design and operational changes with varying rack power density 7. Knowledge of industry standards, ASHRAE, mechanical / building codes, and energy codes 8. Power Distribution: Three-phase, conditioning, and distribution from utility to chip 9. Understanding of mission critical power distribution, UPS, PDU and various data center electrical topologies 10. Understanding of electrical design and operational changes with varying rack power density 11. Knowledge of industry standards, NEC, building codes, energy codes, and life safety fire alarm standards (e.g. NFPA) 12. Cross functional knowledge of mission critical systems, strong troubleshooting and analytical skills 13. Exposure to load management within mission critical facilities 14. The Data Center Engineering team provides management of physical systems within On-Premise & Cloud data centers, which includes cooling, power, structured cabling & physical network, and monitoring / alerting What the Candidate Will Need / Bonus Points ---- What the Candidate Will Do ----, 1. Collaborate with Network Engineering to understand future structured cable requirements and deployments 2. Drive structured cable innovation within Uber's data centers and across the industry 3. Review structured cable designs for feasibility & operational uptime Data Center Engineering, Design & Retrofit 1. Prepare conceptual design documents illustrating structured cabling & physical networking systems and topology requirements 2. Prepare structured cabling & networking system design criteria and specifications for data center retrofits 3. Prepare cost analysis and business cases for structured cable build-outs, retrofits and infrastructure improvements 4. Review structured cable test scripts, procedures, and results 5. Travel to data center sites to oversee structured cabling system retrofits, testing and network turn-up Data Center Engineering, Technical Operations 1. Assist in managing relationships with data center service providers, contractors, manufacturers and suppliers 2. Drive technical operations innovation and efficiency within Uber's data centers 3. Collaborate with the on-site data center operations to improve workflow efficiency of structured & patch cable systems, testing & troubleshooting 4. Review with partner teams to ensure continued service delivery during structured cable & physical network system retrofits and preventive maintenances 5. Review structured cable system operation configurations for compliance with SLAs 6. Development and execution of structured cable & physical network system preventive maintenances 7. Provide communication to internal and external teams about structured cable & physical network system operation and limitations, as well as scheduled activities and maintenances 8. Development and continuous improvement of MOPs, SOPs, Change Management requests, etc. for Uber procedures to external companies 9. Participation with internal and external teams of potential data center structured cable & physical network service impacts and high risk activity 10. Respond as-needed during data center outages and incidents 11. Collaborate and support partner teams to assist with power, cooling and network connectivity outages 12. Participate in incident review meetings, root cause analysis investigations and discussions 13.
