This is an opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working within complex, established environments and understands that great software engineering is about more than writing code. You'll be responsible for understanding how systems support the business, translating real-world requirements into thoughtful technical solutions, and improving existing applications without disrupting the operations that depend on them. The current environment is heavily centered around C#, .NET, and SQL Server, while the team is actively modernizing its technology foundation. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to initiatives involving Linux, Docker, containerization, cloud-native technologies, and more portable data solutions. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating across the full software development lifecycle and can move between technical implementation, architecture, requirements gathering, and collaboration with business stakeholders. What You'll Do * Design, develop, maintain, and modernize enterprise applications using C# and .NET, including .NET Framework and modern .NET * Take ownership of significant portions of the software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, technical design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support * Work with SQL Server data layers, including schema design, complex queries, stored procedures, and performance optimization * Contribute to the modernization and migration of applications toward Linux-based container environments * Containerize .NET applications using Docker and contribute to orchestration strategies using Kubernetes or comparable technologies * Collaborate directly with business stakeholders to understand workflows, clarify requirements, and translate business needs into technical solutions * Challenge requirements and approaches when necessary to identify potential risks, gaps, or opportunities for improvement before development begins * Build and consume REST APIs and integrate applications with internal and third-party systems * Apply strong software design principles, coding standards, architectural patterns, and development practices * Identify technical debt and help develop practical, prioritized plans for addressing it * Troubleshoot and support applications in production environments * Mentor less experienced developers and contribute to the overall growth of the engineering team * Document technical decisions, system behavior, and implementation details to support long-term maintainability, Vaco by Highspring and its parents, affiliates, and subsidiaries ("we," "our," or "Vaco by Highspring") respects your privacy and are committed to providing transparent notice of our policies. * California residents may access Vaco by Highspring HR Notice at Collection for California Applicants and Employees here. * Virginia residents may access our state specific policies here. * Residents of all other states may access our policies here. * Canadian residents may access our policies in English here and in French here. * Residents of countries governed by GDPR may access our policies here. ## Related Videos - [How a Small Team Shrank a Microsoft Monorepo by 94%](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1236-how-a-small-team-shrank-a-microsoft-monorepo-by-94) - [MySQL Protocol Features You Should Be Aware Of](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100267-mysql-protocol-features-you-should-be-aware-of) - [Docker network without Docker](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1418-docker-network-without-docker) - [Navigating the Corporate Jungle: Life as a Developer in a large Company](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/621-navigating-the-corporate-jungle-life-as-a-developer-in-a-large-company) - [Discover the open source trio you didn’t expect: .NET and PostgreSQL on Linux](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/2042-discover-the-open-source-trio-you-didn-t-expect-net-and-postgresql-on-linux) - [Branch your database like your code: How schema changes and pull requests go hand in hand](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/350-branch-your-database-like-your-code-how-schema-changes-and-pull-requests-go-hand-in-hand) ## Related Articles - [How We Built a Worry-Free System That Runs for 10+ Years – And What We’d Do Again](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/751-how-we-built-a-worry-free-system-that-runs-for-10-years-and-what-we-d-do-again) - [Highest Paying Tech Companies for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/220-highest-paying-tech-companies-for-developers) - [Is Software Engineering Over-Saturated?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/418-is-software-engineering-over-saturated) - [Fully Remote Software Engineer Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/447-fully-remote-software-engineer-jobs) - [What Are The Top Skills Required For Azure Developers?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/77-what-are-the-top-skills-required-for-azure-developers) - [Dev Digest 121 - AI goes offline](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/456-dev-digest-121-ai-goes-offline)
