Agent guide: [/agents.md](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/agents.md). --- # Technical Development Lead - AWS / Cloud Engineering - **Company:** Essential Consulting - **Location:** London, UK - **Experience:** Expert - **Salary:** £156,000.0 - £195,000.0 - **Contract:** Permanent contract - **Skills:** Artificial Intelligence, Amazon Web Services, Software as a Service, Cloud Engineering, Continuous Integration, DevOps, Python (Programming Language), Software Engineering, Cloud Platform System, ReactJS, Generative AI, Cloudformation, Containerization, Kubernetes, Cloud Integration, Terraform, Microservices - **Published:** September 4, 2026 - **Apply:** https://www.totaljobs.com/job/technical-development-lead/essential-consulting-job107934719 ## About the Role This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone with deep cloud and software engineering expertise who still enjoys getting into the detail, solving difficult technical problems and exploring how new technologies can be used to build better solutions., * Strong hands-on background in Software Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Platform Engineering or DevOps. * Deep practical knowledge of AWS and the wider AWS technology ecosystem. * Strong experience with containers/microservices and CI/CD. * Experience designing and delivering solutions within complex cloud environments. * Strong software engineering capability - Python experience would be particularly relevant, although broader/polyglot development experience is welcomed. * Experience technically leading, mentoring and supporting other engineers without moving away from hands-on technology. * Strong problem-solving skills and the confidence to challenge technical decisions where appropriate. * Excellent communication skills, with the ability to operate effectively with both highly technical teams and senior stakeholders. * Most importantly, a genuine enthusiasm and curiosity for technology - someone who naturally keeps up with emerging tools and engineering approaches, experiments with new ideas and is interested in continually improving how technology is built and delivered. Desirable * React experience. * Kubernetes/container orchestration. * Infrastructure as Code, e.g. Terraform or CloudFormation. * Developer platform/tooling experience. * Exposure to Generative AI, agentic development or AI-assisted software engineering. * Experience introducing new engineering standards, technologies or development practices. Financial Services experience is not required. We are particularly interested in strong technologists from cloud, SaaS, technology consultancy, digital product, gaming or other engineering-led environments. ## Description This isn't a traditional Development Manager role, nor are we looking for a high-level Architect removed from the engineering.
