Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. ## Description Serves to support the Crossing Guard Section and its mission of safely assisting children to their respective schools. This position will assist in all administrative and some field operational tasks as assigned by the Crossing Guard Supervisor. Work is performed under a civilian supervisor within the Traffic Management Division. STARTING SALARY HIRING RANGE: $22.20 - $23.59/Hourly $46,169 - $49,061/Annually *This is the anticipated starting salary range for this position. Please note that the final salary will be determined by the Office of Human Resources, commensurate with experience and aligned to ensure internal equity with similarly situated roles.* CLASS DESCRIPTION: Performs technical level police operations work under regular supervision from a technical superior. Work includes enforcing relevant Howard County Code, civilian support to police work, assisting with criminal and non-criminal complaints, and performing support work for the various bureaus within the Police Department. Work may also include custody of property; collecting and preserving physical evidence; identifying criminals by prints and maintaining related records and files; identifying, capturing, transporting, and caring for animals. *This is a Classified position, meaning that it is a part of the Howard County Classified Service upon completion of a probationary period of at least six (6) months* *Please note that this position falls within a collective bargaining unit and is represented by AFSCME Local 3085, Local 3888, or Local 1810.* Core Job Functions: * Learn and perform all essential job duties accurately. * Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors at all levels. * Perform administrative functions to support smooth operations of the crossing guard unit. Training and Support: * Assist with training new employees. * Fill in as needed during the supervisor's absence to answer questions and resolve ongoing issues. Scheduling and Staffing: * Schedule crossing guards to assigned posts to ensure coverage. * Assist with deployment to traffic crossing posts when vacancies arise. Uniforms and Supplies Management: * Assist with distributing uniforms and required supplies for crossing guards. Communication: * Communicate with personnel within the department and with other county departments as needed.
