Preferred * Experience in pharmacy benefits management, healthcare technology, or a related regulated industry. * Experience building a governed semantic/metrics layer or moving transformation logic out of the BI layer and into the data warehouse. * Familiarity with version control, CI/CD, and software-engineering practices applied to analytics. * Experience building demo environments or client-facing reporting. ## Description The Senior BI Engineer builds the trusted analytics that power decisions for both internal stakeholders and external PBM clients - owning the work end to end, from the governed metrics layer in the cloud data warehouse to the visualizations that bring those metrics to life. This is a hands-on role with a balanced center of gravity: roughly half your time modeling data and defining metrics in the warehouse, and half building the dashboards and analytics experiences on top of them in our enterprise BI platform. The guiding principle is build once, consume everywhere - define a metric a single time, governed and version-controlled, then serve it consistently to every downstream consumer: BI tools, client-facing reporting, and AI systems. You will also build the AI-native way: standing up your own development environment, working fluently with coding agents, and treating AI tooling as a core part of how analytics gets delivered. This role does not own raw-data ingestion or source pipelines - your work begins at the gold layer and extends through to the consumer., Metrics Layer & Gold-Layer Modeling ( 50%) * Design, build, and maintain gold-layer data models and a governed metrics layer in Snowflake using dbt - clean, tested, documented, and version-controlled. * Establish metric definitions as the single source of truth: calculated once, reused everywhere, with clear ownership and change management. * Push transformation and calculation logic upstream into the warehouse so the consumption layer stays simple, consistent, and high-trust - eliminating per-dashboard logic and manual rework. * Partner with data engineering on the boundary between raw/silver pipelines (theirs) and the gold/metrics layer (yours). * Structure and document metrics so they meet the governance and consistency requirements of AI agents and autonomous analytical systems. Visualization & BI Delivery ( 50%) * Build and maintain dashboards, reports, and analytics experiences in our enterprise BI platform that sit on top of governed metrics rather than reinventing logic. * Translate business questions into both the underlying metric and the visualization that communicates it. * Optimize dashboards and queries for high-volume data, proactively resolving performance bottlenecks before they reach users. * Apply breadth across BI tooling and design patterns to recommend the right approach and distinguish good practice from bad. AI-Native Development * Build with coding agents and AI-assisted tooling as a primary part of the workflow - accelerating model development, dashboard creation, documentation, and testing. * Independently set up and manage development environments, repositories, and the tooling needed to work effectively with agentic systems. * Help establish team practices and standards for building analytics in the AI era. Quality, Governance & Tooling Judgment * Champion data quality, consistency, and trust across all delivered analytics, ensuring numbers hold up under scrutiny. * Contribute to platform and architecture decisions; identify opportunities for automation, templating, and process improvement. ## Related Videos - [Beyond Dashboards: Fixing Text-to-SQL with Semantic RAG](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/2036-beyond-dashboards-fixing-text-to-sql-with-semantic-rag) - [Making Data Warehouses fast.
