A typical design engineer analyzes customer cooling requirements, and then designs, tests, and develops hardware to meet those needs., Create new or modify existing cooling components or systems based on customer/project requirements through extensive collaboration. Work as part of a project team to coordinate component/system development and determine project scope and limitations. Review project requests describing customer needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish project. High ability to work independently and manage one's time. Intermediate knowledge of a cooling component/system development lifecycle: from customer engagement, through requirements gathering and functional specification authoring, to design development, testing and product delivery. Intermediate ability to troubleshoot issues and make system changes as needed to resolve issues. Basic knowledge of thermodynamics, thermal simulation and structural analysis. High knowledge of Creo 3D modeling tools, Teamcenter processes and print creation/releasing. Job contributions to Work Group: Designs, develops, builds, and implements new cooling system components, products, or technologies. 3D design components/systems Organizing, coordinating, and executing the building, testing, and analysis of prototypes. Extensive customer communication and collaboration, developing a production ready product. Assisting supply specialists and buyers with supplier development and supplier performance. Overseeing the efforts of drafting and testing specialists. Developing and documenting functional requirements and translating into detail design documents. Participating in buy-build analysis for product components. Participating in and supporting proposal preparation, cost estimates, and technical reports. Typical task breakdown: - Builds three-dimensional models with basic materials. - Communicates with cross-function engineering teams (internally and externally) to understand various requirements of product design. - Tests and evaluates alternative means of production being considered for use. - Uses automated tools to design or modify the design of a product. - Assists in building a complex prototype of product. Interaction with team: Daily team (internal and customer) interactions including, but not limited to, in-person and virtual meetings. ## Related Videos - [How to Domain Model – An example from manufacturing](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/742-how-to-domain-model-an-example-from-manufacturing) - [TresJS a new declarative ThreeJS as Vue components](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/543-tresjs-a-new-declarative-threejs-as-vue-components) - [Agile work at CARIAD – Creating a customer web application for controlling the vehicle ](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/200-agile-work-at-cariad-creating-a-customer-web-application-for-controlling-the-vehicle) - [Cross platform Augmented Reality development with React Native](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/160-cross-platform-augmented-reality-development-with-react-native) - [Model Based Systems Engineering in an Agile Product Development Process](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/68-model-based-systems-engineering-in-an-agile-product-development-process) - [Debugging Machine Learning Code](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/71-debugging-machine-learning-code) ## Related Articles - [Is Software Engineering Hard?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/448-is-software-engineering-hard) - [What is Software Engineering?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/289-what-is-software-engineering) - [Software Engineer Career: Things You Should Know](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/143-software-engineer-career-things-you-should-know) - [The Ultimate Software Engineer Career Path Guide for 2023](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/146-the-ultimate-software-engineer-career-path-guide-for-2023) - [Are design and development really just the same thing?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/520-are-design-and-development-really-just-the-same-thing) - [Where To Find Software Engineering Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/396-where-to-find-software-engineering-jobs)
